The first look at season three of House of the Dragon is finally here. HBO released the teaser trailer, giving fans a glimpse of dragons, fire, and the Targaryens heading into battle. The new season’s tagline is “From Fire Comes Darkness.”

The trailer shows a divided House Targaryen facing intense conflict. A massive battle scene, originally planned for season two, now takes center stage in season three after the previous season was shortened to eight episodes. Fans can expect epic dragon fights and high-stakes action as the family struggles for power.

This comes at a busy time for Game of Thrones fans. HBO’s other prequel, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, is wrapping up its first season. While smaller in scale, the show has received praise from critics and fans alike, sparking lively debates over which GoT series is better. For the first time, fans will see two Game of Thrones projects airing in the same year.

In other news, another GoT prequel is in the works as a stage play. Game of Thrones: The Mad King will premiere at The Royal Shakespeare Theatre and focus on the famous Tourney at Harrenhal, the event that led to Robert’s Rebellion and the fall of House Targaryen.

The trailer’s release follows a recent profile of saga creator George R.R. Martin in The Hollywood Reporter. Martin discussed creative differences with House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal, particularly around season three, which deviates from Martin’s books in ways Condal says were necessary.

Fans will be able to judge for themselves when House of the Dragon season three premieres in June on HBO.
