Milly Alcock shared how she felt when she was cast as Supergirl in a recent interview with Forbes.

The actress admitted she initially struggled with the idea of stepping into such a big role. “I thought, ‘What have I done?’. I really struggled to believe I could do it. I even called the director saying, ‘I don’t know how to be that person. I’m just me’. Eventually I realized the only way through was to trust myself. I always believe life is right on time. Things happen when they’re supposed to, whether you feel ready or not.” The actress admitted.

Supergirl is an upcoming American superhero film based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El. The movie is directed by Craig Gillespie and written by Ana Nogueira. It will be the second film in the DC Universe.

Alcock stars as Supergirl alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham. The story follows Supergirl as she travels across the galaxy on a dangerous quest for revenge. The film is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios.

The idea for a Supergirl film has been in development since August 2018 as part of the DC Extended Universe. The character first appeared in the 2023 film The Flash, played by Sasha Calle. When Gunn and Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022, plans for the standalone project were updated.

A new Supergirl movie was officially announced in January 2023 as an adaptation of the 2021–22 comic miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Nogueira was hired to write the film in November 2023, Alcock was cast in January 2024, and Gillespie joined as director in May 2024. Filming took place from January to May of this year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden and locations in London and Scotland.

The film is scheduled for release in the United States on June 26, 2026, and will be part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

In the story, Kara Zor-El celebrates her 21st birthday by traveling across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto. During her journey, she meets a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll and faces a tragedy that pushes her onto a deadly path of revenge.
