Piccolo
Age: 29
Piccolo is at one point forced to fight with his arch-rival, Goku, against an alien Saiyan, Raditz, who is trying to conquer the world. Together they manage to defeat this Saiyan, but Goku had to sacrifice his life for this. Just before Raditz dies, he announces that two even stronger Saiyans are coming and that they have heard from his scout about the Dragon Balls that Piccolo was talking about.
Piccolo then decides to train Goku’s son Son Gohan while waiting for the Saiyans. Slowly he becomes endeared to the education and training of Gohan and during the battle with the two Saiyans he sacrifices himself to save Gohan from death.
Gohan
Age: 25
Gohan is calm, intelligent, and studious, but possesses incredible strength and fighting skills. In the beginning, he was a crybaby and reserved boy: he never took pleasure in fighting, unlike his father, who loves to face stronger enemies. Gohan’s power is only released when he becomes enraged or when his friends or someone he cares about is in danger.
This makes him unleash his great power and interfere in the fight, even when there is no possibility of winning, as Gohan feels responsible for protecting his loved ones. In a fight, Gohan is shown to be much crueler than his father and usually has no compassion for the opponent. This violent fighting style is an example of Piccolo’s influence in his life.
In the Cell saga, when Goku sacrifices his life in vain to defeat Cell, who ends up reappearing stronger than ever, Gohan thinks about giving up the fight, but his father, by telepathy, tells him to never give up, as his duty is to protect the Earth. From there, Gohan demonstrates that he is capable of sacrificing his life to protect everything he loves most in the world.
As he grows older, Gohan feels an obligation to act as a father figure to his brother Goten and protect his city from criminals. Because he doesn’t like being the center of attention, he disguises himself as a superhero called the Great Saiyaman.
Pan
Age: 3
Pan is the daughter of Gohan and Videl, then the grandson of Son Goku and Mr. Satan. Her first appearance ever is in the last two chapters of the Dragon Ball manga when she, still a child, she participates in the Tenkaichi Tournament. In Dragon Ball GT, she is instead one of the main characters and she appears in the first episode.
Pan is a teenage girl and has frequent mood swings and often has a grumpy and sometimes irritable character. She hates being considered a child and likes to be the center of attention. In the second episode she will take the place of Goten and will leave with Goku and Trunks in search of the Dragon Balls.
Despite his young age, in the course of the series, he will prove his worth by facing the enemies of the moment, from the mutant machines to the evil dragons, and by helping his grandfather, transformed into a monkey, to come back to himself and complete the transformation into Super Saiyan 4. In the epilogue of the story, she has aged and has become the grandmother of Goku Jr., a child with a shy character and completely identical in appearance to his namesake ancestor.
Goku
Age: 45
Son Goku, usually called Goku, is the protagonist of the Dragon Ball franchise. Pure in heart, he loves to eat, train and challenge himself by fighting against increasingly stronger opponents. Despite his immense strength he never acts selfishly but on the contrary, saves the Earth and the universe several times from the forces of evil. In creating it, Toriyama relied on Sun Wukong, co-star of The Journey to the West.
Trained by Master Roshi and God, Goku will gradually become stronger, defeating various opponents, including the Great Little Wizard, and proving to be the strongest warrior in the world. Five years later Goku discovers that he belongs to the Saiyan race, his name is Kakaroth (Kaarot in the Italian dub of the animated adaptation) and that his original mission was to exterminate the earthlings.
To save his son Gohan from his brother Raditz allies himself with Piccolo and finally sacrifices himself to allow the latter to kill the evil extraterrestrial. From this moment Goku undergoes a rapid escalation of power that leads him in a short time to transform into a Super Saiyan and to defeat Freeza, Cell and Majin Buu, powerful enemies that threaten peace in the universe.
Vegeta
Age: 50
Vegeta is a fictional character from the Dragon Ball manga created by Akira Toriyama. He first appeared on December 19, 1988 in Weekly Shōnen Jump, searching for wish-fulfilling Dragon Balls to gain immortality. Alongside Goku, Gohan, Bulma, Krillin, and Piccolo, he is one of the characters that received the most development.
His character evolves from villain to anti-hero and becomes a hero over the course of the series. He is one of the most popular characters in the Dragon Ball franchise, and his first confrontation with Goku is considered one of the most iconic battles in manga and anime.
Krilin
Age: 46
Krilin is human and first appeared in Dragonball. Along with Goku, he trained with Master Roshi. He is Goku’s best friend. Krilin is one of the strongest fighters compared to the other Z warriors, he took part in the fight against Vegeta and Nappa and then destroyed a few Saibai men.
Together with Goku’s son Son Gohan, he went to the planet Namek and fought alongside Gohan against Frieza’s henchmen, the Ginue Command and Frieza himself. Krilin was killed by Frieza which led to Goku’s transformation into Super Saiyan. Later he was wanted back.
Bulma
Age: 49
Bulma Briefs is one of the main characters of the story along with the protagonist Goku; her role diminishes as the series progresses, but she maintains her position as a supporting character during the rest of the plot. Bulma is the daughter of Dr. Briefs, the founder of Capsule Corporation, a fictional company that produces capsules for storing objects. Like her father, Bulma is a brilliant scientist as well as an inventor and engineer.
Bulma’s inventions are of great importance at certain points in the series. Her most prominent creations are the Dragon Radar, a device that allowed her to shrink, a time machine that brought her son Trunks to the past in Dragon Ball Z, and a generator that allowed her husband Vegeta to reach Super Saiyan 4 in Dragon Ball GT.
Trunks
Age: 16
Trunks is the eldest son of Vegeta and Bulma. He first appears as an adult, easily defeating Freeza and his father King Cold, before Goku’s arrival on Earth from his trip to Namek. He then reveals that he is from the future to warn Goku and his companions of the arrival of the cyborgs, who, in his timeline, have killed all of his companions.
He then participates in the clashes with the cyborgs and Cell before returning to his reality. In the main timeline, Trunks is born just before the cyborgs arrive. Seven years later the child is already capable of transforming into Super Saiyan and, merged with his friend Goten to give life to Gotenks, he fights against Majin Buu. In Dragon Ball GT he is one of the main characters and, now an adult, he travels the cosmos together with Goku and Pan.
Goten
Age: 15
Son Goten, usually called Goten, is the second son of Goku and Chi-Chi. Identical to his father as a child both in appearance and in personality, from an early age he hides a great fighting strength and, already at the age of six, is able to transform into Super Saiyan.
Goten is Trunks’ best friend and, in the fight with Majin Buu, the two merge together to give birth to Gotenks. In the finale of the manga Goten, now grown, changes both physically and temperamentally and is less interested in fighting, preferring to go out with the girls.
Broly
Age: 50
Broly is a Saiyan who appears in the films Dragon Ball Z – The Super Saiyan of Legend, Dragon Ball Z – Challenge to the Legend, Dragon Ball Z – The Diehard Bio-Fighter and Dragon Ball Super – Broly. Broly is born with greater power than many elite adult Saiyans. As an adult, he becomes mentally unstable, to the point of going into a rage when he recognizes Goku only because as a baby he had disturbed him with his continuous crying from the cradle next to him. This state of mental instability is explained by his being a legendary Super Saiyan as told in the legends of the Saiyans.
Beerus
Age: c. 200,000,000
Beerus is the God of Destruction of the Seventh Universe and the twin brother of Champa. His universe is in the penultimate place in the ranking, even if he will then manage to earn the third last place (tenth in the ranking). He first appears in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of the Gods and later in Dragon Ball Super.
He is a thin-bodied, purple-colored humanoid feline with large pointed ears similar to those of Sphynx cats. He wears a black and blue collar, a belt of the same colors with white and orange rhomboid decorations and a piercing on his left ear. Like all the Gods of destruction, Beerus’s fate is linked to the Kaioshin of the Seventh Universe, in particular the Kaioshin of the East: if one of the two were to die, then the other would also meet the same fate.
Beerus often quarrels with his brother Champa over childhood issues and is Quitela’s rival. All the other Gods of Destruction hate him as (as revealed in the Dragon Ball Super manga) they all risked being canceled by Zeno because to his childish and lazy character. In fact, during a game of hide and seek organized by the King of the universes, Beerus fell asleep for 50 years, infuriating the divinity, who was then calmed by the other gods of destruction only with difficulty.
Yajirobe
Age: 47
Yajirobe is a rough-mannered samurai who always carries a katana with him. Despite his remarkable strength, Yajirobe doesn’t know how to use ki and is afraid of confronting stronger opponents, always preferring escape to confrontation. He meets Goku while he is looking for Tambourine, who has recently killed Krillin.
He manages to defeat Cembalo with a single blow and later saves Goku’s life, after the latter was badly wounded by the Great Piccolo, taking him to the top of Karin’s Tower. Later he remains to live with the old hermit. He enters the 23rd Tenkaichi Tournament, being defeated by Divo.
During the fight with Vegeta, he intervenes to cut off the tail of the Saiyan transformed into a monkey, in time to prevent the defeat of Goku, Gohan, and Krillin. His role in history gradually assumes an increasingly marginal weight, limiting himself to delivering Karin’s senzu to Goku and his companions and refraining from all major clashes.
Korin
Age: c. 832
Korin is a martial arts master who lives as a hermit on top of a tower. He has the appearance of a white cat, for whose face Toriyama was inspired by that of his cat Koge while he was sleeping. He guards the water of the majestic god, which is able to awaken the inner strength of people, and cultivates senzu, magic beans that when eaten restore strength and heal any type of wound.
He also has the power to read the minds of others, and by standing on top of his obelisk he can see what is happening in the world. Having lived for over eight hundred years he is very wise and patient, and despite appearing at times severe he cares a lot for his students. Goku manages to climb Karin’s Tower and has the miraculous water delivered, to become stronger and defeat the Great Wizard Piccolo.
Korin later trains Krillin, Yamcha, Tenshinhan and Jiaozi, after they climb the tower themselves. It is also Korin who reveals to Goku the existence of the God of the Earth and explains how to reach him to ask him to awaken the dragon Shenron, previously destroyed by the Great Wizard Piccolo.
Videl
Age: 26
Videl is the daughter of Mr. Satan. Thin, black-haired, and blue-eyed, Videl practices martial arts and is far more skilled than her father at this than she is. She is selfless and has a strong sense of duty, in fact she puts her skills at her disposal in the fight against crime. The girl is initially a classmate of Gohan and she will discover that the boy is the true identity of the local superhero Great Saiyaman.
Under threat of publicly revealing her secret, she forces Gohan to teach her the technique of levitation and the control of ki. She then takes part in the Tenkaichi Tournament, where she is reduced to death by Spopovitch.
After Majin Buu’s defeat, she marries Gohan, abandons martial arts, and gives birth to a daughter named Pan. She also makes brief appearances in Dragon Ball GT, while in Dragon Ball Super, being pregnant with Pan who has Saiyan blood, she helps Goku in his first transformation into a Super Saiyan God.
Dr. Hedo
Age: 24
Dr. Hedo is a gifted scientist who was hired by the Red Pharmaceuticals to develop a new series of artificial humans, thanks to his advanced technology. He is one of the secondary antagonists in Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. He was hired by Magenta, the CEO of Red Pharmaceuticals (the public face of the Red Ribbon Army), to create a new series of powerful twin androids to act as “superheroes”: Gamma Number 1 and Gamma Number 2.
Cell Max
Age: 0
Cell Max is a biodroid created by Dr. Hedo, using the original Cell as a reference, to be the ultimate weapon of the Red Ribbon Army. He is the true main antagonist of Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero. Cell Max is a creature that closely resembles the semi-perfect form of the original Cell, with the difference that it has a much more robust and rough appearance.
The red color is the one that predominates mainly throughout its body, with several areas of pistachio green, intense and bright red and yellow eyes without pupils, and a large club at the end of its tail. The various spots that are scattered all over his body become visible and glowing when he increases his power or uses energy attacks; the same happens with his eyes, which become completely spherical.
Cell Max’s size progressively increases until he becomes a gigantic and colossal being. Due in large part to his premature activation, Cell Max is an irrational, hostile, and wrathful creature who acts purely on instinct. He does not possess any of the cold or calculating attributes of the original Cell, though he knows how to adapt and learn as he fights seasoned warriors like Piccolo.
