‘Hudson & Rex’ Season 9 Episode 2 Release Date, Time, Where to Watch and Preview

The second episode of ‘Hudson & Rex’ follows closely behind a season opener built around a returning face. The follow up, titled ‘Three’s a Crowd’, is scheduled for October 12, one week after the premiere. The opener, ‘The Man in the Hoodie’, begins with Superintendent Donovan nearly killed in a mysterious attack, and Rex leads the team to an impossible discovery.

The bigger story behind this run of ‘Hudson & Rex’ is the return of its original lead. John Reardon is back as Detective Charlie Hudson after Charlie left to search for his missing brother in South America. That puts Charlie back beside Rex just as the show settles into its weekly schedule.

Release Date and Air Time Details

The second episode is set for Monday, October 12. A couple of episode guides list October 13 instead, so the exact date can vary depending on the listing.

The official show site promotes the season premiere for Monday night at 9 p.m. Eastern and 8 p.m. Central on Citytv. A separate report also gives 9 p.m. for the first episode. No separate time has been published for the second episode, so viewers will want to check the Citytv schedule closer to the date.

The new season is a full order of 12 episodes. The first eight titles are scheduled week by week from October 5 through November 23.

Where to Watch the New Episode

In Canada, new episodes air on Citytv and can also be streamed on Citytv+. One streaming guide lists Citytv+ at CA$9.99 per month or CA$99 per year.

American viewers have generally relied on UP Faith & Family for streaming. That service began releasing the previous season weekly on Thursday, June 11. The UPtv cable premiere of that season followed on August 6.

The sources gathered so far do not confirm a United States date for the new episodes. The previous season opened in Canada on September 22 and reached UP Faith & Family on June 11, so a gap between the two markets is already part of the pattern.

Preview of ‘Three’s a Crowd’

The synopsis describes a woman who wakes from a drunken blackout covered in blood and holding a murder weapon. The reunited Charlie and Rex must determine whether she committed a killing she cannot remember. It is a classic procedural hook, and it gives the returning pair a case that rests on doubt rather than an obvious culprit.

The reunion also changes the shape of the team. Luke Roberts remains in the cast as Detective Mark Hudson, so Charlie and Mark now share the same station house. Mayko Nguyen, Kevin Hanchard and Justin Kelly also return alongside Reardon and the canine star.

‘Hudson & Rex’ is produced by Shaftesbury and Pope Productions in association with Citytv and Beta Film. The series is a Canadian remake of the Austrian production ‘Kommissar Rex’, which ran from 1994 to 2004. That long lineage helps explain why the formula of a dog, a detective and a puzzling death still travels well.

The third episode, ‘End of the Line’, follows on October 19 with the murder of a railway enthusiast tied to a threatened museum. The fourth, ‘Team Spirit’, arrives October 26 and sends Charlie and Rex into the world of elite gymnastics. If a woman who cannot remember her own night is the first real test for Charlie and Rex after their reunion, do you think her memory gaps point toward guilt or toward a setup, and what clue in ‘Three’s a Crowd’ will tip you off first?
