Hugh Jackman Gives Us Our Biggest Hint Yet That He Is Returning as Wolverine
Hugh Jackman is giving fans hope that he might return as Wolverine. The actor hinted at the possibility during an interview with Variety’s Actors on Actors, where he was paired with Cynthia Erivo.
Jackman said, “It doesn’t feel like the end. I’ve told everyone that I’m done. I’m not one of those guys. Then I went, ‘You know what? I change my mind.’ It’s not that big of a deal. I’m not even gonna say I’m sorry. And it was so awesome.”

Speculation about Wolverine’s return has been growing as Marvel gears up for major 2026 releases, including Avengers: Doomsday. Fans are curious about which characters will appear and who might face off against Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom, but Marvel has been keeping details under wraps.
Jackman previously addressed the topic while promoting his new film, Song Sung Blue, with Kate Hudson. On The Graham Norton Show, he joked about the possibility, saying, “Maybe. I’m never saying ‘never’ ever again… I have done 10 films now, so I think they have enough for an AI version of me.”
Even in May, during an appearance on The View, Jackman remained vague. “I can’t say much… I really have nothing to add, and if I did, I would find a really cool way to not say it, but I actually have nothing to add,” he told the hosts. Evangeline Lilly, who played Wasp in the Ant-Man and Avengers films, added more fuel to speculation in July, teasing a possible team-up with Jackman’s Wolverine.
Fans have a lot of reasons to be excited. Jackman has portrayed Wolverine for more than 20 years, beginning with the first X-Men film in 2000. Over that time, he has played the character in 10 movies, including X2: X-Men United, The Wolverine, Logan, and most recently Deadpool & Wolverine in 2024.
Whether Wolverine will appear in an 11th film remains unknown. Marvel fans will likely have to wait until Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters on December 18, 2026, to find out if Jackman is suited up again.
