Hugh Jackman Opens Up About Onstage Peeing Mishap: “It Was Just Going. It Was Just Going”
Hugh Jackman recently shared a hilarious story from his early stage career that left fans laughing.
The actor, known for playing Wolverine and many Broadway roles, revealed an onstage mishap from his time performing in an Australian production of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast in the 1990s.
On the Dec. 10 episode of The Howard Stern Show, Jackman described what happened while playing Gaston. “As I picked Belle up, a little bit of pi** came out,” he admitted. Wearing red tights at the time, he worried the audience might notice, and he had to think fast. “I thought, ‘Uh-oh,'” he recalled.
“And I remember Belle’s over my shoulder, she goes, ‘What’s going on?’ ‘Cause I’d stopped singing. I was just marching around.”
Jackman said he faced a tough choice at the end of the song. “You sing that F sharp—and I either sing it and pi** my pants, or I don’t sing it and humiliate myself,” he explained. Showing his dedication to the performance, he chose to go for it. “I sang it, and it was just going. It was just going.”
For a moment, he thought he had avoided disaster. “I looked down and there was nothing,” Jackman said. “I’m like, ‘I don’t understand, these tights must be like a wet suit or something.’ So, I’m like laughing to myself thinking my boot is filled with pi**.”
However, the crew did notice the accident. “My dresser is in the wings and all she’s doing is looking at my crotch,” he shared. “And I look down as I walk off and it’s completely wet. So, in that three minutes after the song, it had seeped through.”
Since then, Jackman has continued to shine on stage, including starring in the Broadway revival of The Music Man with now-girlfriend Sutton Foster. Reflecting on the incident, he joked, “Nothing can embarrass you after that.”
