Hugh Jackman Reimagines Robin Hood in First Trailer for ‘The Death of Robin Hood’
The latest take on the popular hero comes in The Death of Robin Hood, with Hugh Jackman playing the famed hero, or possibly antihero. The new trailer, released by A24, gives a glimpse of a darker, more brooding story.
Writer and director Michael Sarnoski, known for Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, brings a tone that is intense and mysterious. The film is inspired by Robin Hood’s Death, a 17th-century ballad, making it one of the oldest stories about the character.
The trailer hints at Jackman’s Robin Hood being older and world-weary, carrying echoes of Jackman’s role in Logan. Jodie Comer appears as a mysterious woman who tells Robin that a young girl he knows, Little Margaret (played by Faith Delaney), may be in danger. This seems to push Robin back into action, drawing him into violent and dangerous situations.

Brief flashes of combat in the trailer suggest intense and brutal action. These scenes may show Robin’s past or his present journey, giving the film a dark and gritty edge. Fans may also spot Bill Skarsgård as Little John, with hints of Noah Jupe and Murray Bartlett appearing in the teaser.
The story appears to explore themes of aging, responsibility, and returning to one’s past, similar to the way Sarnoski’s Pig examined an older man drawn back into a dangerous world. The trailer leaves many questions unanswered, including the true role of Comer’s character and the fate of the young girl.
A24 has confirmed that The Death of Robin Hood is set to be released later this year. With Jackman taking on a version of Robin Hood like never before, it promises a fresh and darker look at the classic legend.
