Hulk Legend Lou Ferrigno (74) Is Still Pumping Iron, and Fans Can’t Believe the Footage
Few pop culture icons have aged quite as impressively as Lou Ferrigno. The bodybuilding legend became a household name playing the green-skinned hero in CBS’s ‘The Incredible Hulk’, which ran from 1978 to 1982. Decades later, Lou Ferrigno’s workout routine is still turning heads online.
His story in the gym started early. Born on November 9, 1951, in Brooklyn, Ferrigno began weight training at just 13 years old. He went on to become a towering presence in competition, standing 6 feet 5 inches and weighing 285 pounds onstage in 1976, while going head-to-head with greats like Arnold Schwarzenegger, Franco Columbu, and Frank Zane.
Now 74, Ferrigno shows no signs of slowing down. A new 40-second clip from his Instagram, shared by CoveredGeekly, shows the actor powering through a lift while wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with his own name. In the caption, Ferrigno said he’s still enjoying pumping iron after all these years.
The video quickly caught fire with fans, racking up thousands of likes and more than 200 bookmarks. The post paired the new footage with a classic image of Ferrigno as the Hulk, highlighting just how long he’s been an icon of strength.
This latest clip is part of a steady stream of training content Ferrigno has shared throughout the year. In April, he explained that he still trains 4 to 5 days a week and closely watches his diet. He also cautioned against overdoing it with vitamins, supplements, and over-the-counter medication, stressing the importance of listening to your body.
Back in July, he shared footage of himself crushing an intense set of T-bar rows, an old-school exercise he has used throughout his career. In that post, he reflected on how training has evolved over the decades and joked that he and Schwarzenegger were still doing the same exercise 50 years later.
Ferrigno’s approach has shifted with age. Speaking to Men’s Health, he explained that he now prioritizes efficient lifts and quality reps over ego-driven heavy weights. His focus is on preventing injuries and maintaining a strict whole-food diet.

That philosophy has also helped him recover from setbacks. Ferrigno has said that staying active was critical to his recovery from shoulder surgery, during which 95% of his tendon was reattached. He has encouraged others to embrace the aging process, crediting exercise and a careful diet for helping him feel decades younger.
Ferrigno’s influence stretches well beyond the gym. In addition to ‘The Incredible Hulk’, he appeared in the documentary ‘Pumping Iron’ and starred in films like ‘Hercules’ and ‘Sinbad of the Seven Seas’. He has also described his ‘Hulk’ co-star Bill Bixby as a mentor and father figure.
His career has included plenty of other notable chapters, too. Ferrigno won Mr. Universe and Mr. America in the same year and once served as Michael Jackson’s personal trainer. Today, he and his daughter, Shanna Ferrigno, run Ferrigno Fit, a website dedicated to improving lives through health and fitness.
For longtime fans, seeing Ferrigno still lifting is a powerful reminder of his lasting legacy. He has repeatedly said that it’s never too late to get started, regardless of age or body type. At 74, the original Hulk is proving that strength and dedication don’t have an expiration date.
