Legendary animated franchise Ice Age is back. The franchise that was created by Fox’s Blue Sky Studios, which was shut down by Disney earlier this year, now returns on Disney+.
Even though Blue Sky Studios is no more, their most famous franchise will still return. Disney today officially announced that the sixth movie – The Ice Age Adventures of Buck Wild – will debut exclusively on Disney+ on January 28, 2022.
Disney also unvelied the teaser trailer:
The story of the Ice Age is pretty much known to everybody. The animated comedy centered on the herd of prehistoric animals – Manny the Mammoth, Sid the Sloth, and Diego the Saber Tooth Tiger – started in 2002 with the original movie. And since then it released four sequels.
The franchise is centered on The Herd going through exciting, dangerous, but also very comedic adventures. Ellie the Mammoth and Crash & Eddie, the opossum brothers, joined the herd in the first sequel – The Meltdown – with more and more animals joining the squad with each new movie.
Buckminster, also known as Buck, is a weasel who joined the franchise in the third movie – Dawn of the Dinosaurs – and later returned in the fifth movie – Collision Course. He lived in the underground Dinosaur World which was the center of the third movie. And now he’s back for more.
Ice Age is one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time, with over $6 billion in revenue. Except for the movies, Ice Age also consists of TV specials, toys, video games and other merchandise.
