‘In the Grey’ Star Henry Cavill (43) Turns Heads at Googlebook Launch as Fans Revive the ‘Too Old’ Debate
Henry Cavill has long been one of Hollywood’s most famous gamers. The Superman and ‘The Witcher’ star went viral years ago for building his own gaming PC, proving that a leading man could also be an unapologetic tech enthusiast.
Now that passion has turned into a major partnership. Google announced it has teamed up with Cavill, a longtime Android user, to showcase its new line of Googlebook laptops, the company’s Gemini-powered, Android-based computers.
That collaboration brought Cavill to a Googlebook launch event in New York on October 6, and a short clip from the appearance quickly went viral. The 12-second video, showing the actor calmly holding a laptop, made the rounds, with fans using it to push back on past claims that Cavill looks “too old.”
In the footage, Cavill stands in a dimly lit space wearing an olive green bomber jacket, a matching shirt and khaki trousers. He holds a sleek laptop in one hand while glancing around the room with a relaxed smile.
The fan who shared the clip pointed to it as proof that criticism of the actor’s appearance missed the mark. The post sparked hundreds of replies and thousands of likes as fans celebrated the moment.

The appearance is part of a larger marketing push. Google revealed that Cavill had his hands on a Googlebook before its official announcement and has been using it for his own creative projects.
The centerpiece of the partnership is a video game. “This November, Henry is teaming up with Google to build a video game using Googlebook,” the company said in its official announcement.
Google plans to share progress through its Android Instagram account and a dedicated project page. Cavill has described the partnership as potentially the start of something special after spending time with the Google team.

The Googlebook line is Google’s new push into premium laptops. Preorders opened on September 21, with 5 models starting at $899 and the first devices launching at US retail on October 4.
Five manufacturers have announced Googlebook devices, and campaign images show Cavill working on an HP Googlebook 14. Google is highlighting features like Continue on phone syncing, Rambler speech-to-text, and Antigravity.
The first models reportedly sold out within days of preorders opening. However, some critics have questioned the price, software limitations, gaming capability, and Google’s planned shift away from ChromeOS.
For Google, Cavill is an ideal ambassador. Windows Central called him arguably the world’s most famous PC gamer, making his switch to a Googlebook an attention-grabbing move.
Google leaned into that reputation, saying it wanted to tap into Cavill’s “inner maker.” The actor reportedly asked to try the laptop early after Google explained its integrated tools. Details about the game remain under wraps, including its genre and gameplay. Google has said more will be revealed in November as development gets underway.
In the meantime, Cavill’s New York appearance has already done its job, getting fans talking about both the actor and Google’s new laptops. If the reaction to this short clip is any indication, his game project will draw plenty of attention.
