Few horror movies have broken out quite like ‘Obsession’. Curry Barker’s twisted horror-romance arrived in theaters in April 2026, and with a reported budget of only about $750,000, it became a genuine box office phenomenon.

The numbers are remarkable. The Focus Features release has earned more than $500 million worldwide, becoming the studio’s highest-grossing release ever. It also turned its star, Inde Navarrette, into one of the most talked-about breakout names of the year.

With a hit that big, sequel talk was always going to follow, and Navarrette is all for it. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, she was asked about a possible ‘Obsession 2’, and her answer was enthusiastic.

“I would totally be open to doing a sequel. Are you kidding me? Who am I to say no?” she said. For fans who have been hoping to see more of her character, Nikki, that’s very good news.

Navarrette also gave some thought to where Nikki could be after the credits roll. In the film’s monkey-paw-style story, Nikki becomes fixated on Bear, played by Michael Johnston, after his wish goes horribly wrong.

According to Navarrette, Nikki is “just starting the grief process” after a loss she had no control over. That suggests there’s still plenty of emotional ground left to explore if Barker returns to her story.

Her excitement stands out because earlier comments from the cast suggested a sequel wasn’t a priority. In July, Johnston said no sequel was in development, though he’d be willing to return, and joked that his character Bear probably isn’t someone audiences want back.

Johnston also said the team considered a darker original ending before choosing the version that made it into theaters. That decision is part of why Nikki remains available for a possible follow-up.

Barker has already hinted at what could come next. The writer-director has said he has “ideas” for a sequel and has floated turning ‘Obsession’ into a broader anthology, possibly with new stories built around the wish-granting willow at the center of the film.

Johnston called the anthology idea “really, really cool” and said he’d like to see a story where a wish actually works out. That approach could let the franchise expand without depending only on its original characters, though Navarrette’s comments show the door is open for Nikki as well.

Barker’s schedule is filling up quickly. He’s set to direct a new ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ film for A24, and his horror comedy ‘Anything But Ghosts’ is due on May 7, 2027. Navarrette’s career has also taken off. She’s been cast as Rogue in Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ reboot, set to open on May 5, 2028.

She told THR that she’s also joining a smaller video game project to “test the water” and that she’d love to be cast in a ‘Resident Evil’ game someday. Navarrette’s success is especially sweet considering where she was before the film came out. She has spoken about going roughly a year and a half without landing work after ‘Obsession’ wrapped, before the film’s release changed everything.

Now she’s one of horror’s most in-demand stars, with a Marvel role on the way and a fanbase eager for more Nikki. A sequel would be a fitting next step for the character that launched her.

Nothing has been officially announced yet, but the pieces are there. A massive hit, a director with ideas, and a star who’s eager to return make a sequel or anthology expansion seem increasingly likely. For now, fans will have to wait to see whether Barker’s next wish-granting nightmare brings Nikki back.

Would you rather see Obsession 2 continue Nikki’s story or become an anthology?
