Industry Insider Shares Grim Update on MCU’s ‘Blade’ Reboot

The highly anticipated ‘Blade’ reboot has faced significant issues long before recent SAG-AFTRA strikes. The MCU movie, focusing on the iconic vampire hunter Eric Brooks, was meant to reboot the popular ‘Blade’ trilogy that helped shape today’s MCU.
Since Mahershala Ali first pitched the idea and was officially cast as Blade in 2018, the project has struggled with script problems and has seen multiple changes in writers and directors throughout its development.
The movie was already delayed several times and was recently even pulled from Disney’s release schedule, and no alternative date was given to the film; its spot was taken over by Predator: Badlands.
Soon after the movie was pulled from the release schedule, Feige himself gave us an update regarding the film, saying that Ali is still set to star in the movie and that the movie i still being worked on. That was several months ago, and since then, the project has seen no further official updates.
Industry insider Daniel Richtman revealed on his Patreon that the Blade reboot has been delayed “indefinitely.” This could mean a few things: the project may no longer be in active development, though there are still plans to release it eventually, or it may have been quietly shelved, with an official cancellation announcement yet to come.
Keep in mind that this is still just a rumor and hasn’t been confirmed by any official sources. However, and it’s a big “however,” even if the Blade reboot is still in development, fans have already expressed concern about Mahershala Ali’s age for the role. That concern has only grown with each passing year.
Some earlier reports claimed the film was scheduled to begin production later this year, but that now seems highly unlikely. As of now, the movie has no director and no finalized script. The last update regarding the script came in June 2024, when it was reported that Eric Pearson had been brought in to rewrite it.
