The vampire Lestat is back, and this time, he’s ready to rock. Fans of Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire were treated to an exciting look at Season 3 during the show’s panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The crowd went wild when a brand-new teaser was shown, featuring Sam Reid as Lestat delivering a full-on stage performance as a rockstar. It’s clear this season is taking things to a whole new level.

That wasn’t the only surprise. The panel also revealed five new cast members joining the show. Jennifer Ehle is playing Gabriella, Ella Ballentine will appear as Baby Jenks, Jeanine Serralles is Christine Claire, Christopher Heyerdahl steps in as Marius, and Damien Atkins plays Magnus. Returning fan-favorites Delainey Hayles and Assad Zaman are also confirmed to be back.

Alongside the teaser, fans got to see three minutes of actual footage from Season 3. It included a tense moment between Louis and Daniel over the now-published book, a dramatic face-off in a boardroom between Louis and Lestat, and, of course, plenty of blood.

There was more big news for fans of the Anne Rice universe. The team also talked about the upcoming spinoff Anne Rice’s Talamasca, which is set to premiere on October 26. Eric Bogosian, who plays journalist Daniel Molloy in Interview With the Vampire, shocked the crowd by announcing he’ll appear in the new series too.

His character even showed up briefly in the Talamasca teaser, which made the audience cheer all over again.

Bogosian explained, “Daniel has dealt with the Talamasca before. The Talamasca has been living on the edges of Daniel Molloy’s consciousness, and now he’s found out that the Talamasca is pulling him in deeper into their world.”

Later, cast members Sam Reid, Eric Bogosian, and Jacob Anderson sat down with executive producer Mark Johnson and showrunner Rolin Jones to talk more about Season 3. They spoke at the Comic-Con Variety Studio presented by Google TV.

Fans had been wondering if the new focus on Lestat might mean less time for Louis, but Anderson was quick to calm those fears. He said, “I can say that Louis is not hugely pleased with the book’s existence, if that is a good tease. I’m here! I’m here.” Showrunner Rolin Jones added, “No one should worry at all. There’s way more Louis in our show than there is in the book.”

Reid also opened up about what it was like preparing to play a rockstar vampire before even seeing the scripts. He said, “It was deeply satisfying actually, because the songs are incredible pieces alone, but there’s also a show that we shoot, and it’s got story. There are scenes that exist within the performances, within the actual songs themselves. Layering Rolin’s work on top of [composer Daniel Hart’s] work is quite challenging. They’re very different, but they both have a singular vision. Sometimes I feel like I get caught up in the middle of the whirlwind of the two of them, but I think that works perfectly for a start. He’s all chaos, all the time.”

AMC officially renewed the show for a third season in June 2024. The new season will be based on the second book in Anne Rice’s series, The Vampire Lestat, and is expected to premiere in 2026.

Interview With the Vampire has been praised for its writing, visuals, soundtrack, and the strong chemistry between its cast members. It’s picked up nominations from the Critics’ Choice Television Awards, GLAAD Media Awards, and more.
