Inventing Anna: Julia Garner Opens Up About Her Character In Netflix’s Upcoming Limited Series

Netflix is getting ready to release the upcoming limited series Inventing Anna on February 11. Based on true events, in less than a week we will watch Ozark star — Julia Garner — playing famous scammer Anna Delvey. You’ve never heard of her? Read the next paragraph for quick info.

Anna Delvey, real name Anna Sorokin, is a young woman who pretended to be a wealthy heiress to defraud and steal money from banks, hotels, and the people who thought she was their socialite friend. Delvey started her criminal path in 2013, and it was put to an end in 2017 when she was arrested and charged for grand larceny, larceny in the second degree, and theft of services. In May 2019, she was sentenced to 4 to 12 years in prison but was released in 2021 for good behavior. After only six weeks of freedom, she was taken into the custody of ICE, where she remained to this day, awaiting deportation to Germany.

Netflix decided to adapt her life story into a limited series, and Shonda Rhimes (best known for TV shows Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, Bridgerton, etc.) was hired to helm the series and produce it with her Shondaland television company. Ozark star and two-time Emmy winner Julia Garner was cast to play Delvey. Garner even visited Delvey in prison to prepare for her role.

In the newest video released by Netflix, we see Garner opening up about the scammer she’s playing. Garner revealed that Delvey’s accent was one of the things she had to work on before the production started, and she also praised make-up artists and hairstylists who visually turned her into incredibly authentic Anna.
