Is Callum Turner the Next James Bond? Reporter Behind Daniel Craig Scoop Says Word Is Out
The search for the next James Bond has been one of the longest-running casting stories in Hollywood. Amazon MGM Studios is developing the next 007 film with Denis Villeneuve directing from a script by Steven Knight, and the project is targeting a 2028 release.
Only 6 actors have officially played Bond so far: Sean Connery, George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig. Producer Amy Pascal said in August that a casting announcement by the end of the year was a good bet, and Gary Oldman claimed in September that the next Bond had already been chosen.
The rumors have now picked up a well-known name. Roger Friedman of Showbiz411, who broke the news of Daniel Craig’s Bond casting more than 20 years ago, reported that word on the street is that Callum Turner is the next James Bond.
Friedman didn’t give any sourcing beyond that, and Amazon MGM Studios has not confirmed anything. Still, Dark Horizons noted that Friedman’s track record makes it unlikely he would run such a claim without hearing something.
In his piece, Friedman said Turner has the right height and enough acting ability, and that Villeneuve could shape him into the role. He also suggested that Turner’s wife, Dua Lipa, should sing the next Bond theme.

Friedman’s report follows a busy weekend of speculation in the British press. The Sun reported that Turner recently stepped down as a director of Twentytwo Films, the production company he launched with Lipa, reportedly to prepare for the role.
According to World of Reel, the couple co-owns the company equally, and it was modeled on Margot Robbie’s LuckyChap. British tabloids, including the Daily Mail, quickly read the move as a sign that the long search was over.
Turner also reportedly did a Bond screen test at Bray Studios in Berkshire, and the couple was photographed drinking martinis at a restaurant over the weekend. World of Reel cautioned that none of this is confirmed and described some of the tabloid coverage as overreach.
Turner is reportedly one of 4 actors who reached the final stage of the search. Jack Lowden and Josh O’Connor were named among the finalists, and Jacob Elordi has also been linked to the role.
O’Connor reportedly told a fan backstage at London’s Almeida Theatre that he won’t be playing Bond. Lowden spoke to GQ, but neither confirmed nor denied an audition, saying he did not want to add to the noise.
Bookmakers have shifted between Lowden and Turner as the favorite. Dark Horizons noted that Turner may physically best match Ian Fleming’s vision of the character, but he is less acclaimed than O’Connor and Lowden.
Turner has kept quiet about the speculation. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in June, he said he found the rumors amusing and insisted he knew nothing about the role.
He declined to say whether he would take the part if offered, and he explained that friends and even old acquaintances regularly contact him about it. The British actor is known for the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ films, the series ‘Masters of the Air’, the romantic comedy ‘Eternity’ and George Clooney’s ‘The Boys in the Boat’.
If an announcement comes in November, Amazon MGM could begin shooting the new film next year. Until the studio makes it official, fans will have to treat Friedman’s report as a strong rumor and not a confirmation. With so many signs pointing the same way, though, the countdown to an official reveal looks closer than ever.
