Is ‘Xo, Kitty’ Over? Fans Grow Worried as Netflix Stays Silent on the Show’s Future

‘XO, Kitty’ has been one of Netflix’s most reliable teen hits since it first premiered in 2023. The spinoff from Jenny Han’s ‘To All the Boys’ franchise follows Anna Cathcart’s Kitty Song Covey as she navigates love and school in Seoul, and each season has landed strongly on the streamer’s charts.

Season 3 continued that trend when it premiered on April 2. It debuted at No. 1 on Netflix’s English TV chart with 12.9 million views and went on to rank No. 16 in the platform’s What We Watched report for the first half of the year, with 29.3 million views through June 30.

Despite those numbers, fans are increasingly worried about the show’s future. According to What’s on Netflix, cryptic comments from the cast and a long silence from Netflix have led many viewers to believe that Season 4 may never happen.

Much of the concern comes from Anthony Keyvan, who plays Q. When a TikTok fan asked where the next season was, he replied that he was going to hold their hand when he said this, a response that drew more than 700 comments.

He has also answered fans’ questions about Season 4 with memes and reportedly said back in July that it isn’t coming. However, Keyvan has never explicitly confirmed that the series has been canceled. The show’s star has been just as uncertain. In May, Cathcart told Us Weekly that Season 4 was a big question mark and that the cast didn’t know yet whether it would happen.

She added that the team was proud of Season 3 and would be thrilled to return, saying she was waiting for an answer just as anxiously as fans. More recently, a fan pointed out that her social media profile no longer mentions the show, though the reason is unclear.

The long wait stands out because Netflix moved quickly with earlier seasons. Season 1 was renewed about 4 weeks after its premiere, and Season 2 got its renewal less than a month after launching in January 2025.

Season 3 is the first to go more than 7 months without an announcement. Netflix didn’t respond to What’s on Netflix’s request for comment. The viewing numbers may offer part of the explanation. Over its first 3 weeks, Season 3 drew 23.7 million views, about 12% below Season 2 and 27% below Season 1.

The show isn’t officially canceled, though. In July, Deadline reported that Paramount Television Studios had extended Netflix’s option on the series, along with the cast’s options, keeping Cathcart, Sang Heon Lee and the rest of the ensemble available.

According to that report, the question is how to end Kitty’s story rather than whether to. Netflix and Han were said to be weighing either a traditional Season 4, possibly set in Seoul or somewhere new, or a standalone movie to wrap up the story.

What’s on Netflix noted that a movie finale is at least as plausible as a full fourth season. Han has gone that route before, with ‘To All the Boys’ told across 3 films and ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty’ getting a film follow-up after 3 seasons.

For now, fans are stuck waiting for official news. Whether ‘XO, Kitty’ returns for another season, ends with a movie, or wraps up for good, Netflix will need to make a decision soon. Until then, the cast’s cryptic replies are likely to keep the speculation going. Fans who want closure for Kitty and her friends will be watching closely for any update.

How would you like Netflix to continue Kitty's story after XO, Kitty Season 3?
