For months, Hollywood has been watching the Paramount and Warner Bros. merger reshape the industry, from leadership shake-ups to antitrust battles. One big question, however, remained unanswered: what would the newly combined giant actually be called? Now, the Paramount-Warner Bros. new name has finally been revealed.

The timing is significant. The roughly $110 billion deal is set to officially close on Tuesday, October 6, and will create a company that ranks among the biggest in the business alongside The Walt Disney Co. On Friday morning, David Ellison announced in a post on X that the combined company will be called Skydance. The name comes from the studio Ellison founded back in 2006.

Ellison explained that both Paramount and Warner Bros. carry century-long legacies and distinct identities, and that he never wanted a new corporate name to diminish or overshadow either one. Instead, he said the goal was to give the combined company its own identity while allowing both studios to keep what makes them special.

He also framed the move as an upgrade rather than a rebrand. According to World of Reel, Ellison said the company isn’t rewriting history but rather equipping the iconic studios with a more powerful engine.

While Skydance will serve as the corporate name, Paramount and Warner Bros. will remain as sub-brands under the new umbrella. Alongside his announcement, Ellison shared a sizzle video featuring footage from film and TV projects across the combined company.

The video ended with a Skydance logo surrounded by several studio logos. The Hollywood Reporter noted that the final title card may hint at how Ellison is thinking about the individual brands that will live within Skydance.

Skydance has quite the history. Ellison, a pilot with an interest in aviation, took inspiration for the company name from the flying aerobatics known as “skydancing.”The company went through several changes before arriving here.

It was renamed Skydance Media in 2020, and then became Paramount Skydance Corporation after merging with Paramount Global and National Amusements on August 7, 2025. The name reveal caps off a whirlwind week for the company. Mattel CEO Ynon Kreiz was named co-CEO alongside Ellison, while HBO CEO Casey Bloys was tapped to run both Paramount+ and HBO Max, with Paramount streaming head Cindy Holland exiting.

On the film side, Warner Bros. chiefs Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy are expected to leave once the merger closes. Ellison has also laid out 4 strategic priorities for the combined company, including winning in content, becoming the most technologically capable media company, maximizing operational efficiencies, and earning trust.

The choice has sparked plenty of debate online. Some fans questioned why the merged company didn’t adopt one of the more iconic studio names, with one commenter on social media saying they had expected something like Warner-Paramount and accusing Ellison of having an ego.

World of Reel also noted that naming the entire operation after your own production company is a statement in itself. How much creative independence the studios will truly keep under the new banner remains one of the biggest questions as the deal closes. For now, one thing is clear: when the dust settles next week, Hollywood’s newest entertainment powerhouse will be known as Skydance.

What do you think of Skydance as the new name for Paramount and Warner Bros.?
