Jacob Elordi Just Revealed the Most Unhinged Detail Yet About Filming Nate’s Euphoria Death Scene

Few characters on television have inspired as much online vitriol as Nate Jacobs, the manipulative golden boy Jacob Elordi played for three seasons of ‘Euphoria.’ Fans spent years rooting against him, and when the show finally decided to write him out, it did so in the most theatrical way possible.

That ending arrived during ‘Euphoria’ season three, which was showrun by Sam Levinson and starred Zendaya, Hunter Schafer, Elordi, Sydney Sweeney, Alexa Demie, Maude Apatow, Eric Dane and others across eight episodes. The finale doubled as a series ender and brought in 8.7 million cross platform viewers in the United States over its first three days, capping a run that HBO says drove roughly 140 percent more social conversation than the season premiere.

Now Elordi is opening up about just how far the production went to make Nate’s demise feel real. Speaking on ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ with guest host and fellow ‘Euphoria’ star Colman Domingo, Elordi described the filming experience in characteristically dry fashion. According to the post shared by Variety, Elordi said Levinson “brought me back to torture me,” explaining that he got locked in a coffin for two days straight with prosthetics and a fake tongue, unable to see out of his own eyes, before Levinson added snakes into the enclosed space with him.

The reptile in question was a real boa constrictor, which the show digitally transformed into a menacing rattlesnake for the final cut. Elordi didn’t hold back describing his scaly costar’s temperament, saying the snake had a very nice personality and was docile and sleepy, and that despite being meant to look threatening, it behaved more like a small dog curling up at his feet than a predator finishing off Nate Jacobs.

The scene closed out a brutal final stretch for the character, who spent much of season three being hunted and beaten by henchmen after a real estate deal went sideways. Elordi has said the buildup involved roughly six weeks of getting beaten by a seven foot actor while constantly running from scene to scene, making the coffin sequence feel like the culmination of a genuinely grueling shoot rather than a single rough day at work.

Elordi has been candid about how much the role shaped his career, and ‘Euphoria’ remains the project that launched him into leading man territory well before his upcoming turns in ‘Wuthering Heights’ and ‘Frankenstein.’ He has continued branching into heavier dramatic work since, including the Prime Video miniseries ‘The Narrow Road to the Deep North,’ where he plays an Australian soldier captured during World War II, a far cry from the high school hallways of Nate Jacobs.
