James Bond Gets a New Mission: First Gameplay for ‘007: First Light’ Drops
IO Interactive has unveiled a first look at gameplay for their upcoming James Bond game, 007: First Light. The action-adventure title will take players through the early career of the world’s most famous spy, offering an origin story that shows James Bond completing the mission that earns him his iconic 00 status.
The game follows a young and somewhat inexperienced 26-year-old Bond, voiced by Patrick Gibson.
Fans will see new takes on classic characters, including M, Q, and Miss Moneypenny, each reimagined to reflect their influence on Bond’s early days in MI6. The story draws inspiration from Ian Fleming’s novels and the long-running film franchise, giving the game its own narrative while staying true to the character’s roots.

After Activision lost its non-exclusive licence to make James Bond games following 007 Legends in 2012, the franchise has been absent from the gaming world for years. IO Interactive first announced development of a new Bond game in November 2020.
Work on 007: First Light began in earnest after Hitman 3 wrapped up in 2021, and the project was fully revealed to the public in June 2025.
The game is set to launch on March 27, 2026, for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Windows, and Nintendo Switch 2. Fans who pre-order will have access to early content and additional cosmetic features, though a special edition will also be available with collectibles and exclusive in-game items.
Hakan Abrak, CEO of IO Interactive, told IGN that the team sees 007: First Light as the start of a potential trilogy. “We wanted to create a younger version of James Bond that players can call their own and grow with,” he said.
Abrak compared their plans to the Hitman: World of Assassination trilogy, explaining that the intention is to expand Bond’s story through multiple games in a connected series.
The first gameplay reveal provides a glimpse of Bond in action, showcasing his early missions, combat, and espionage skills. Players will get to see how IO Interactive has blended stealth, strategy, and action to bring this classic character to life in a modern gaming format.
For fans of James Bond, this is an exciting return to the world of 007 in video games. The new game promises a fresh take on the spy’s origin while offering familiar elements for longtime fans of the series.
