James Gunn opened up about one of the wildest scenes in the second season of Peacemaker during an interview with Rainn Wilson. The superhero series, based on the DC Comics character, is set in the DCU and follows the mercenary Chris Smith, also known as Peacemaker, after the events of the DCU film Superman (2025). The season is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025.

Wilson didn’t waste time getting to the question on everyone’s mind. “My biggest question was how the hell did HBO okay the frequent use of the word ‘c***’ and a full-on o*** with dancing d**** in season two of Peacemaker? Because literally my jaw dropped to the f**** floor,” he said.

Gunn explained that HBO has always been open to nudity and adult content. “I know. And it’s a sequel to Superman. HBO, they’ve always kind of let us do what we wanted. Remember, HBO has had a lot of nudity in their shows. They’re not unknown to nudity,” he said.

The scene in question, however, was more than just nudity. It was a full-on dance o****. “Yeah, there’s some little p****** dancing around. Listen, we wanted to make it real. I’m not worried about the use of the C word. The time where that’s been crazy has kind of come and gone as far as I can tell. But the o*** in the first episode, I think we’re just letting people know, ‘Hey, this is a wild ride that you’re in for the whole season and this is the kind of craziness you’re going to see.’ We’re trying to warn people as much as possible when they see the episode that although this is a follow-up to Superman, it is definitely not for children,’ Gunn said.

He also praised the role of intimacy coordinators on set. “You hear some of these old-school people complaining about the intimacy coordinators. But the intimacy coordinator was my best friend for the days that we were shooting that o**** because it really allowed us to just do whatever we wanted and be really comfortable with it and make sure that everyone was on the same page,” Gunn said. He added that the extras involved went all out, making the scene even more chaotic and memorable. “Guy sitting on the counter with his s*hl*ng hanging out, eating a sandwich in the middle of an o****. Those guys are great,” he laughed.

Filming for the second season took place in Atlanta while Gunn was also working on Superman, so he scheduled his scenes on weekends to manage both projects. The season will feature eight episodes and has already received positive reviews from critics, praising John Cena’s performance and the supporting cast.

With the o**** scene and Gunn’s honest take on intimacy coordinators, the new season promises to be a wild, no-holds-barred ride for fans.
