James Gunn Comments on the Possibility of ‘Peacemaker’ Season 3
The second season of Peacemaker has officially wrapped up, and fans are already wondering what’s next for the chaotic crew.
After a long wait of more than three years, the John Cena-led DC series finally returned to HBO Max, and it didn’t disappoint.
The new season connected the show to James Gunn’s newly rebuilt DC Universe while keeping the same humor and wild energy that made its first season such a hit.
With the season now over, the big question is whether there will be a season three. As of now, HBO Max hasn’t officially renewed the show, but that doesn’t mean fans won’t be seeing these characters again. In an interview with Deadline, James Gunn addressed the possibility of another season and hinted that the story isn’t done, even if it doesn’t continue in the same format.
He said that while Peacemaker will return, the next chapter might look a little different.
During Peacemaker: The Official Podcast for season two, episode eight, Gunn said, “Peacemaker will be back. As for this TV show, we’ll see exactly what form. We have plans. You’ll see all these characters in the future of the DCU in not too long.”
That suggests the characters could appear in other DCU projects before a potential third season.
One of those could be the Waller series, which Gunn and Peter Safran announced as part of their “Chapter One: Gods and Monsters” lineup when they first took over DC Studios. The show will focus on Viola Davis’ Amanda Waller, the ruthless government leader seen in The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.
It’s been some time since Gunn first confirmed Waller, and while DC’s plans have evolved since then, he recently told People that the show is still in development. He explained that progress has been slow but steady, saying they’re still working on it and plan to move forward.
So while Peacemaker season three isn’t confirmed yet, fans can rest easy knowing the story isn’t over. Gunn has made it clear that Peacemaker and his team will return — just maybe not where or how fans expect.
