James Gunn has revealed that a new, unannounced DC television project will be the next to start filming. The DC Studios co-CEO shared the update while talking about what’s coming after his upcoming Superman movie.

During an appearance on Chad Hardwick’s podcast I Think You’re Overthinking It, Gunn explained that the Superman follow-up and Matt Reeves’ The Batman Part II are both on the horizon. But he also added a surprise detail: “And then we have another TV show, which nobody knows about, which is going next,” he said. Gunn gave no further details about the show’s title, characters, or release plans.

So far, the DCU’s first chapter, Gods and Monsters, includes four shows already in development. These are Waller, centered on Viola Davis’ character, Lanterns, which will follow Hal Jordan and John Stewart, Paradise Lost, a prequel focused on Themyscira, and Booster Gold, based on the fan-favorite time traveler. Lanterns is expected to arrive in 2026 and will be the first of these shows to release.

This mystery project, however, is something separate. Gunn has previously admitted that he kept it out of his original DCU announcement because he didn’t want rival studios to copy the idea. “There was one thing that I knew about from the very beginning, that when I pitched to David Zaslav what the DCU would be, I pitched to him, but we did not announce in that first meeting because I felt like it was too easy to rip off by another company,” he explained.

The reveal comes as DC expands its TV lineup after the positive reception of Creature Commandos, an animated series aimed at adult audiences. Gunn has hinted more than once that viewers should expect a greater focus on R-rated projects under his leadership, suggesting the mystery series could lean in that direction as well.

All of DC’s new shows will first air on HBO before streaming on HBO Max, part of Warner Bros. Discovery’s updated release strategy.
