James Gunn is currently one of the busiest filmmakers in both comic book houses. After his surprising hit — Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy — and its sequel — Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 — launched him into the stars, Gunn also started working for DC, for which he made The Suicide Squad movie, and the spin-off TV series Peacemaker, which is currently airing and its also a huge and surprising hit for DC and HBOMax.

Gunn is currently filming the third and presumably final installment of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, but he already has more projects for DC in motion. Gunn recently shared that his next project will be a TV series, but he refused to share what the series will be about. We can only presume that it’s going to be about some other character from The Suicide Squad. We would love to see Idris Elba as Bloodsport again, but knowing Gunn, we wouldn’t be surprised if the new series would be about Ratcatcher, or maybe even Weasel. Possibilities are endless.

“We’re working on something else now, another TV show that’s connected to that universe. I can’t quite say. […] I can’t say anything. It is connected to this universe, and I don’t think it will be the same genre as Peacemaker, it won’t be as much a comedy as Peacemaker, but it will be in the same universe.” — James Gunn for Deadline

But even with that new project, there’s still a question about Peacemaker. Is that show a TV series or a mini-series. Gunn never gave the specific answer, but now he revealed that there’s a good chance that Peacemaker could be renewed for Season 2, which wouldn’t be surprising considering the series’ surprising success. Here’s what Gun had to say when he was asked about the potential second season of Peacemaker.

“There’s a really good chance of that. […] The show is doing extraordinarily well, and we’re excited, we all like doing it, we just need to cross some Ts and dot some Is, which is basically me.” — James Gunn for Deadline

Peacemaker: Producer Opens Up About The Potential Season 2

Prior to the Peacemaker’s premiere, producer Peter Safran said it’s all up to James in matters of the potential second season. If Gunn says there will be season 2, and if HBOMax agrees with it of course (but why wouldn’t they?), there’s a good chance that John Cena’s member of Task Force X will eventually return after the first season concludes.

James Gunn’s Peacemaker is streaming now on HBOMax.
