James Gunn Says Final ‘Peacemaker’ Season 2 Episodes Are Top Secret: “I Won’t Even Let My Publicist See Them”
Reviews for Peacemaker season 2 are starting to appear, but fans will have to wait for the final three episodes before knowing the full story. According to James Gunn, the show’s creator, that’s exactly how he wants it.
Only the first five episodes of the season have been shown to a select group of critics. Gunn told entertainment journalist Brandon Davis that he’s keeping the last three episodes hidden to avoid spoilers.
“It could mean they’re terrible,” Gunn joked in a video. “That is one option. Or it could mean that there’s a lot of major twists and turns in the last three episodes. And even though I’m sending the first five to a select few, things still get out as you know. Things got out already. You know, people who want to search can be spoiled on purpose, but I really don’t want what’s in those last three episodes to be spoiled. And so I’m keeping them close to the chest. I won’t even let my publicist see them. That’s the god’s honest truth.”
Gunn also teased the episodes he’s most proud of. “I will also say, six and eight may be my favorite things I’ve done, like, of all time. It’s like some of my favorite stuff ever,” he said.

Peacemaker season 2 follows the DC Comics character Chris Smith, also known as Peacemaker. Unlike the first season, which spun off from the DC Extended Universe film The Suicide Squad (2021), the second season takes place in the DC Universe, a soft reboot of the DCEU. The season continues the story after the events of the DCU film Superman.
John Cena returns as Peacemaker, joined by Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, Robert Patrick, Frank Grillo, Sol Rodríguez, David Denman, Tim Meadows, and Michael Rooker. James Gunn wrote and directed all eight episodes. The season was originally ordered in February 2022, but production was delayed when Gunn became co-CEO of DC Studios and shifted focus to Superman.
Filming eventually started in 2023 alongside Superman at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and principal photography ran from June to November.
The season is set to premiere on HBO Max on August 21, 2025, and will feature eight episodes.
