James Gunn, co-CEO of DC Studios, has revealed that he already has actors in mind to play Batman in the DC Universe.

In a recent interview with The Ringer-Verse, Gunn was asked about the search for the next actor to wear the Batsuit. While he didn’t name anyone, he confirmed that several options are being considered.

“Do I have ideas about actors to play Batman? Absolutely, I do. I have guys I like. I have guys that are at the top of the list, just like I had people that were at the top of the list for Superman.”

“But let me tell you something, they aren’t David Corenswet, right? They didn’t get the job. People can guess, and maybe they’ll be right about certain things. I don’t know. I don’t know what you’re talking about specifically. [It’s] totally up in the air,” Gunn said.

He also emphasized that the casting process would be careful and thorough. “We’d have to screen test, we’d have to do the whole thing. It’s unlikely that I’m going to hire someone that’s [like] Sylvester Stallone as Batman [where] we’re just hiring him. It’s unlikely that Batman’s going to be one of those guys.”

“But it’s possible! I know one actor in particular who’s a pretty big star that wants to be Batman. We’ve talked about it, but I’m not sure that’s the case.”

Gunn provided an update on the Batman script as well. While he did not reveal the screenwriter, he confirmed that the screenplay is still being written. “The script isn’t done, I mean, we’ve got somebody writing a script, I think it’s really good. But it isn’t finished yet,” he said.

Fans have suggested a number of actors for the role. Alan Ritchson and Jensen Ackles have been frequently mentioned as fan favorites. Ritchson himself has talked about the possibility of playing Batman, saying: “Words have been exchanged about Batman. But I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”

With Gunn leading the creative direction, the DCU’s Batman casting is still very much in development. Fans will have to wait a while to find out who will take on the iconic role.

It’s exciting to know that Gunn already has ideas for Batman, but the process seems cautious and deliberate. Choosing the right actor is crucial for a character as iconic as the Dark Knight. Who do you think should play Batman in the DCU? Share your thoughts in the comments.
