A sequel to The Batman was announced in April 2022, with Robert Pattinson and Matt Reeves returning. Titled The Batman – Part II, it will also bring back Zoë Kravitz, Andy Serkis, and Colin Farrell.
Filming is set to start in April 2025 at Warner Bros. Studios in England, and the movie is now scheduled for release on October 2, 2026, after being delayed from its original October 2025 date.
The delay sparked rumors that the movie was canceled, especially with James Gunn’s upcoming film The Brave and the Bold in the works, leading some to speculate that Gunn didn’t want two Batman movies competing.
The rumors are linked to another set of claims suggesting that James Gunn was responsible for ending Superman & Lois after just four seasons, instead of the planned seven.
Gunn was recently asked about these cancelation rumors and responded openly to the questions.
In his statement, Gunn expressed frustration with people who believe unverified rumors on social media. He emphasized that if a project were canceled, it would be officially announced, with no need for “games” or confusion.
Gunn also showed strong support for Matt Reeves, explaining that he has been a fan of Reeves’ work since Cloverfield and the Planet of the Apes movies, and assured fans that they are eagerly awaiting Reeves’ script for the upcoming project.

There’s no evidence to suggest that the project has been canceled, especially given the success of The Penguin. If anything, everything points to Reeves’ Batman Crime Saga growing with more movies and spinoffs in the future.
