James Gunn Thinks Adria Arjona Would Make a Great Wonder Woman

The DC Universe is still missing two parts of its famous Trinity, Batman and Wonder Woman. Right now, only Superman has been officially confirmed, while the other two heroes haven’t even been cast yet.

Gal Gadot played Wonder Woman in the previous DCEU movies. Her 2017 Wonder Woman film was a big hit, making $821.8 million at the box office.

But the follow-up, Wonder Woman 1984, did much worse. It only made $169.6 million and didn’t get great reviews. This was partly because the movie came out during the pandemic, which hurt its chances.

Fans expected Gadot to return for another Wonder Woman movie. However, like Henry Cavill (Superman) and Ben Affleck (Batman), she was dropped when the DCEU was canceled.

Recently, James Gunn confirmed that Wonder Woman has not been cast for the new DC Universe yet. But fans have already been sharing their own ideas about who should play the role. One popular name is Adria Arjona. She has the talent and the look to be a good Wonder Woman.

Adria Arjona Torres has acted in several TV shows like Emerald City (2017), Good Omens (2019), where she played Anathema Device, and Andor (2022–2025) as Bix Caleen. She has also starred in movies such as Father of the Bride (2022), Hit Man (2023), and Blink Twice (2024). Plus, she had smaller roles in films like Pacific Rim Uprising (2018), Life of the Party (2018), Triple Frontier (2019), 6 Underground (2019), and Morbius (2022).

When asked why he follows Arjona on social media, James Gunn said he thinks she would be a great Wonder Woman. But that’s not the only reason. He started following her long ago because she acted in one of his movies seven years ago. Gunn said, “She was in a movie that I made seven years ago. I followed her then, I didn’t just follow her.” This shows he has admired her work for a while.

There’s no official word on when Wonder Woman will appear in the new DC Universe. However, Gunn and DC producer Peter Safran announced a new project called Paradise Lost. This series will be a political drama about the battles for power on Themyscira, the all-female island where Wonder Woman comes from, set before she was born.

Back in December 2022, Patty Jenkins said she would not be making another Wonder Woman movie. Gunn and Safran told her that a sequel wouldn’t fit with their new plans for the DC Universe. They compared Paradise Lost to Game of Thrones because of its political drama. The title reminds fans of a 2001 comic book story called Paradise Island Lost, which is about a civil war on Themyscira.

James Gunn also recently confirmed that the Wonder Woman movie is being made, but did not share any details.
