DC’s new animated series, Creature Commandos, is celebrating its first anniversary with a free YouTube marathon.

The series, which kicked off the DC Universe (DCU) reboot, will stream on DC’s official channel for a limited time on December 22 from 1 to 7 pm and again on December 23 from 3 to 9 pm. All seven episodes of the first season will be available to watch.

Creature Commandos, created by James Gunn and produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, follows a black ops team of monsters assembled by Amanda Waller, voiced by Viola Davis.

The team includes characters like The Bride (Indira Varma), G.I. Robot, Weasel (both voiced by Sean Gunn), Doctor Phosphorus (Alan Tudyk), Nina Mazursky (Zoë Chao), and Rick Flag Sr (Frank Grillo). The series is part of DC’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters and serves as the first major entry in the new DCU under Gunn and Peter Safran.

The show premiered on HBO Max on December 5, 2024, and quickly became a hit with both fans and critics. It holds a 95% critics’ score and a 78% audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. Its unique mix of dark humor, strong character work, and high-quality animation helped it stand out. Following the success of the first season, a second season has already been confirmed, although the release date is still unknown.

Gunn wrote all seven episodes of the first season, with Dean Lorey as showrunner and Yves “Balak” Bigerel serving as supervising director. Animation for the series was handled by Bobbypills and Studio IAM. Since its release, Creature Commandos has ranked among the most-watched shows on Max, generating 22 million minutes of viewership in its first full week.

Fans of DC and newcomers alike will have the chance to revisit the series during this free marathon. With its strong voice cast, engaging story, and critical acclaim, Creature Commandos has proven to be a compelling start for the new DC Universe.

This free YouTube event is a perfect way to celebrate the show’s anniversary and introduce new viewers to the rebooted DCU. What do you think of Creature Commandos and the way DC is rebooting its universe? Share your thoughts in the comments.
