James McAvoy and Lisa Liberati Celebrate Arrival of Their Son Away From Spotlight
James McAvoy has recently shared a rare glimpse into his private life, revealing that he and his wife, Lisa Liberati, are parents to a four-year-old son. The X-Men star disclosed that the couple quietly welcomed their child in 2022, though they chose to keep the news entirely out of the spotlight until now.
In a conversation with The Guardian published on March 31, McAvoy reflected on the unique experience of becoming a father again at the age of 42. The actor noted that entering parenthood in his forties has provided him with a different outlook compared to when he welcomed his first son, Brendon, now 15.
He explained that he feels more settled this time around, stating, “I worry less. I’m a bit more philosophical.” However, he was quick to admit that the physical demands of a toddler are more taxing than they were in his younger years, adding, “But it’s also harder, because you’re just older and tireder.”
McAvoy and Liberati, who divide their time between London and Philadelphia, first crossed paths in 2016 while working on the psychological thriller Split. Liberati was serving as the personal assistant to director M. Night Shyamalan at the time, and the pair eventually married in a private ceremony in 2022.
The actor has long maintained a strict boundary between his professional career and his personal affairs, a practice he established during his previous marriage to Bad Sisters actress Anne-Marie Duff. Despite their separation, McAvoy and Duff have remained committed to a policy of mutual respect and privacy regarding their shared history.
He previously emphasized that they made a conscious choice not to discuss one another in the media, a rule that continues to guide his interactions today. He noted that even though his life has transformed significantly, his refusal to turn his family life into tabloid fodder remains a constant.
Professionally, McAvoy is currently celebrating a major milestone with his directorial debut, California Schemin’, which is scheduled for a wide theatrical release in the United Kingdom on April 10.
The musical biographical film tells the true story of Gavin Bain and Billy Boyd, two Scottish students who successfully conned the music industry by posing as an American rap duo. The film features rising stars Samuel Bottomley and Séamus McLean Ross in the lead roles, with McAvoy also appearing in a supporting capacity.
