Jamie Lee Curtis Apologizes for Her Offhand MCU Comments, and Ryan Reynolds Comes to Her Defense
If you’ve missed the recent MCU drama, you might not know that Jamie Lee Curtis publicly criticized the MCU by calling Phase 5 “bad.”
The remark was more amusing than serious. When asked about the current phase of the MCU during SDCC, the actress simply replied with “bad.”
Despite the obvious joke, Jamie Lee Curtis’ comment generated significant backlash from fans. Many defended the MCU, calling her “bitter,” “salty,” and “rude.”
Curtis has had a contentious history with the franchise. Previously, she commented on ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness,’ drawing comparisons to her film ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ and implying that MoM borrowed elements from it.
She noted that both films explore the multiverse concept and accused ‘Doctor Strange’ of copying her movie’s visual style. Curtis argued that despite its smaller budget, her film outperformed Marvel’s, praising ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’ for its heart, visual appeal, performances, and fight scenes, and claiming it achieved more with far less financial backing.
Recently, her upcoming movie ‘Borderlands’ was compared to the ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ franchise, with many noting a similar aesthetic. Given her history with Marvel, the actress chose to apologize for her previous comment.
Some might argue that this apology isn’t genuine, but opinions vary. The situation took a turn when Ryan Reynolds, the latest addition to the MCU, seemed to lighten the mood by poking fun at the MCU even more.
In ‘Deadpool & Wolverine,’ Reynolds humorously comments on the current state of the MCU and tells Jackman’s Wolverine that he’s joining “at a bit of a low point.” Reactions to Reynolds’ joke were mixed: some fans were frustrated by the overused joke dominating celebrity discourse, while others appreciated him supporting Curtis’s right to express her opinion.
