Jared Leto’s ‘Tron: Ares’ Gets Action-Packed ‘Soldier’ Trailer Ahead of Release!
Tron: Ares, the next chapter in the Tron franchise, is gearing up for its release with a new trailer that has fans excited. Walt Disney Pictures revealed the first official “Soldier” trailer ahead of the movie’s scheduled release on October 10, in the United States, including IMAX screenings.
The film is directed by Joachim Rønning, with a screenplay by Jesse Wigutow based on a story by David Digilio and Wigutow. Tron: Ares is the third film in the series and follows Tron: Legacy from 2010.
The story centers on Ares, a highly advanced program sent from the digital world into the real world, marking humanity’s first encounter with artificial intelligence, according to Walt Disney Pictures.
We gave them minds. We gave them bodies. We gave them power.

Jared Leto stars as Ares, the intelligent program created by Julian Dillinger. The ensemble cast also includes Greta Lee as Eve Kim, Evan Peters as Julian Dillinger, Hasan Minhaj as Ajay Singh, Jodie Turner-Smith as Athena, Arturo Castro as Seth Flores, Cameron Monaghan as Caius, Gillian Anderson as Elisabeth Dillinger, and Jeff Bridges returning as Kevin Flynn from the previous films. Sarah Desjardins is also part of the cast.
The development of a Tron sequel began back in October 2010 with franchise creator Steven Lisberger. Over the years, the project went through multiple directors and script changes. Garth Davis was attached as director in 2020 but stepped down in January 2023. Rønning took over in February 2023.
Production was delayed due to the 2023 Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA strikes, but filming finally began in January 2024 in Vancouver and wrapped in May. Industrial rock band Nine Inch Nails is set to compose the score.
The Tron franchise has had a complicated history with sequels. Early attempts to continue the story after Tron: Legacy involved Garrett Hedlund and Olivia Wilde’s characters in the real world, but Disney canceled those plans following the box office disappointment of Tomorrowland.
Over the years, various scripts and directors came and went, and the project was largely on hold until Disney refocused on a fresh reboot with Leto in a new role.
Personally, I think the new trailer looks intense and visually stunning. Jared Leto seems perfect for the role, and the story promises an exciting mix of sci-fi and action. What do you think about Tron: Ares? Share your thoughts in the comments.
