Javier Bardem Just Teased a ‘Dune: Part Three’ Ending Nobody Saw Coming
Anticipation for the conclusion of Denis Villeneuve’s ‘Dune’ saga has been building steadily since ‘Dune: Part Two’ became one of the defining blockbusters of 2024. Timothée Chalamet’s Paul Atreides ended that film as a rising messiah figure, and fans have spent months speculating just how far the story would go once it caught up to Frank Herbert’s darker sequel novel. That speculation has only intensified now that the cast is speaking more openly about what is coming.
‘Dune Part Three’ is set to adapt ‘Dune Messiah,’ the pivotal book about a shapeshifting Face Dancer conspiring to overthrow Paul, and the film is scheduled to hit theaters on December 18, 2026. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Florence Pugh, Anya Taylor-Joy, Josh Brolin, Jason Momoa and Isaach De Bankolé are all expected to reprise their roles, with Javier Bardem returning as the Fremen leader Stilgar.
That is exactly the role Bardem is looking to hype up. Culture Crave shared comments from Entertainment Tonight in which Bardem promised the film’s ending will be “a masterpiece” and that the “conclusion is going to be something no one suspected.” He added that Villeneuve “wants to go farther from the last movie” the same way ‘Dune Part Two’ pushed further than its predecessor.
Bardem went on to tell the outlet that even readers familiar with the source material should brace themselves. He explained that those who have read ‘Dune Messiah’ will find the film goes beyond the book, calling the result “a feast” and promising it will be “extraordinary.” Coming from an actor who has lived inside this world since the first film, that is a bold promise to put on the record.
The cast around Bardem has only grown more stacked as production wrapped. Robert Pattinson joined the ensemble as Scytale, the shapeshifting Face Dancer plotting against Paul, while Jason Momoa surprised fans by returning as Hayt, a ghola clone of Duncan Idaho built by the Tleilaxu and secretly engineered to destroy Paul. Hans Zimmer is also back to score the finale, keeping the sound of Arrakis consistent through all three films.

‘Dune Part Three’ will not have the box office to itself either. The film opens the same day as Marvel’s ‘Avengers Doomsday,’ a scheduling collision fans have already nicknamed “Dunesday,” with both Chalamet and Robert Downey Jr. reportedly floating the idea of turning it into a Barbenheimer style cultural moment.
Bardem’s own future in the franchise has not always sounded this certain. In an earlier chat, he told Deadline he was not sure whether Stilgar even survives into the script, joking that he would be “very angry” and go to Canada to find Villeneuve if his character was cut. He softened that by praising the director as “one of a kind” and “an extraordinary human being,” a far cry from any real tension between the two.
With Villeneuve promising a conclusion built to outpace the books and a cast this loaded circling the finale, the pressure on ‘Dune Part Three’ has never been higher.
