Jennifer Aniston to Lead New Apple TV+ Series Inspired by Former Nickelodeon Star’s Memoir

Jennifer Aniston is set to star in a new Apple TV+ series inspired by Jennette McCurdy’s memoir, I’m Glad My Mom Died, Variety reports. The show will have 10 episodes and focus on the difficult relationship between a young actress and her controlling mother.
The story centers on an 18-year-old actress who stars in a popular kids’ TV show. Her mother, played by Aniston, is a narcissistic woman who takes pride in being known as “a starlet’s mother.” The series promises to mix heartbreaking moments with humor as it explores the challenges of growing up in the spotlight with a demanding parent.
Jennette McCurdy is well known for her role on Nickelodeon’s iCarly and has appeared in various other TV shows and movies. Her memoir, published in 2022 by Simon & Schuster, quickly became a New York Times bestseller and stayed on the list for over a year.
McCurdy is deeply involved in the making of the show. She will co-write, executive produce, and run the series alongside Ari Katcher, who has worked on Ramy and the Jerrod Carmichael Reality Show. Jennifer Aniston will also serve as an executive producer through her company, Echo Films.
The show’s production team includes Sharon Horgan and Stacy Greenberg from Merman, Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Josey McNamara from LuckyChap, plus Jerrod Carmichael and Erica Kay. Apple Studios will handle production.
This new series adds to Aniston’s growing work with Apple TV+, where she stars in and executive produces the popular drama The Morning Show. That show is set to begin its fourth season in September and has earned Aniston Emmy and Golden Globe nominations.
Sharon Horgan’s involvement continues her collaboration with Apple, as she previously created Bad Sisters for the platform. The second season of Bad Sisters is scheduled for late 2024.
This upcoming series looks like it will give a raw and honest look at the struggles Jennette McCurdy faced growing up in Hollywood. Jennifer Aniston’s role as the demanding mother is expected to bring serious star power to the story.
