Jennifer Lawrence Hails Leonardo DiCaprio’s Latest Film as ‘Incredible
Jennifer Lawrence is raving about Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, One Battle After Another, calling it “the most incredible movie I’ve ever seen in my entire life,” according to The New York Times. She saw the movie in 70mm IMAX and described the experience as “as God intended.”
This is a major change from her reaction to Anderson’s Phantom Thread. Back in 2018, she told Marc Maron on his “WTF” podcast that she couldn’t even get through the movie. “I got through about three minutes of it. I put in a good, solid three. Oh my god, I couldn’t. I’m sorry to anybody who loved that movie. I couldn’t give that kind of time,” she said.
At the time, Lawrence hinted that her reaction was personal, as she had just ended a relationship with Darren Aronofsky, whom she met while filming mother! in 2017.
One Battle After Another is a 2025 action thriller directed, written, and co-produced by Anderson. The film, inspired by Thomas Pynchon’s 1990 novel Vineland, stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benicio del Toro, Regina Hall, Teyana Taylor, and Chase Infiniti. It follows an ex-revolutionary forced back into a dangerous life when he and his daughter are hunted by a corrupt military officer.
Anderson had wanted to adapt Vineland for years and incorporated some of his own stories into the narrative. Filming took place in California using VistaVision, marking one of the first uses of the format for principal photography since the 1960s. With a budget between $130 million and $175 million, it is Anderson’s most expensive film to date.

The movie premiered in Los Angeles on September 8, 2025, and was released in U.S. theaters on September 26 by Warner Bros. Pictures. Critics praised Anderson’s direction and screenplay, the cinematography, editing, music, and action sequences, with special acclaim for the ensemble cast. So far, the film has grossed $191 million worldwide, becoming Anderson’s highest-grossing movie.
Lawrence is also set to reunite with DiCaprio in Martin Scorsese’s upcoming film, What Happens at Night, expected to begin production early next year.
