Jennifer Lawrence Said Her First NSFW Scene Was Bizarre

Jennifer Lawrence, the Oscar-winning star we all know from blockbusters like ‘The Hunger Games,’ recently shared some candid thoughts about her first-ever on-screen sex scene. It happened while filming ‘Passengers,’ a 2016 sci-fi flick where she starred alongside Chris Pratt. She didn’t hold back, calling the experience downright bizarre—and not in a fun way.

The scene itself was part of a story about two passengers waking up too early on a spaceship headed to a new planet. Lawrence played Aurora Lane, a writer, while Pratt was Jim Preston, a mechanic. Their characters get tangled in a romance, and that’s where things got awkward for her. She admitted it was tough, even though everything on set was handled professionally. To cope, she turned to a few drinks before shooting. But that didn’t quite ease the nerves—she ended up feeling even worse afterward, wrestling with guilt over kissing a married guy, even if it was just acting.

What made it so strange for her? Lawrence explained it was her first time doing something like that on camera. Despite her big roles in action-packed hits or emotional dramas like ‘Silver Linings Playbook,’ this was uncharted territory. She even called her mom to talk it out, looking for reassurance that it was okay to feel so off about it. That vulnerability is something I think a lot of us can relate to—stepping into something new and feeling totally out of your depth.

‘Passengers’ wasn’t a small project either. Directed by Morten Tyldum, it had a hefty $110 million budget and brought in over $300 million at the box office. Critics had mixed feelings, though—some liked the chemistry between Lawrence and Pratt, while others found the plot shaky. Pratt, for his part, said they bonded quickly over the script and dumb jokes, which probably helped lighten the mood on set. Still, Lawrence’s take shows how even a pro can feel rattled by the job.

Looking back, this wasn’t her only brush with tricky scenes. Years later, in the 2023 comedy ‘No Hard Feelings,’ she went all out again, this time playing Maddie Barker, a broke Uber driver roped into dating a shy teen for cash. There’s a wild moment where she fights some kids on a beach—completely naked. She laughed it off in interviews, saying she didn’t hesitate because it was hilarious to her, even if her team was a bit worried. That’s a big shift from the nerves of ‘Passengers.’

Lawrence has always been open about her work. She’s not shy about taking on bold roles, whether it’s the dark spy thriller ‘Red Sparrow’ or the quirky ‘Mother!’ from 2017. Each time, she brings something real to the table, and I reckon that’s why we keep watching. Her first NSFW scene might’ve been bizarre for her, but it’s just one piece of a career that’s never been boring.
