Jennifer Lawrence Says She Jumped Straight Into a Nude Scene on Day One of Filming ‘Die My Love’
During a Hollywood Reporter roundtable discussion, the actress shared that her new movie Die My Love began in a very unexpected way.
Before cameras even started rolling, director Lynne Ramsay asked Lawrence and her co-star Robert Pattinson to take interpretive dance classes together. The goal was to help them feel more connected before filming intense scenes.
That preparation led straight into a shocking first day at work. Lawrence said the opening shoot involved both actors fully nude and physically attacking each other for the scene.
“Our first day on set was a naked scene where we were attacking each other like tigers,” Lawrence said. “But it was kind of nice that it was day one because then it wasn’t hanging over our heads.”
The moment sparked laughs from others at the table. Amanda Seyfried joked that knowing what your co-star looks like early on removes awkwardness later. “If you know what the genitals look like, you don’t wonder,” she said.
Cynthia Erivo then shared a very different bonding story with her own co-star. She explained that her experience involved long talks at home and snacks, not nudity. When Lawrence asked if anyone was naked during that time, Erivo replied simply, “Nobody was naked.”

Die My Love is directed by Lynne Ramsay, who is known for emotional and intense storytelling. The film is based on the novel by Ariana Harwicz and stars Lawrence as a mother struggling with serious mental health issues while living in rural Montana. Robert Pattinson plays her husband. The cast also includes LaKeith Stanfield, Nick Nolte, and Sissy Spacek.
The movie premiered at the Cannes Film Festival in May and competed for the Palme d’Or. Critics responded positively, especially praising Lawrence’s performance and Ramsay’s direction. Lawrence later earned a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress in a Drama. The film was released in U.S. theaters by Mubi in November and became the highest-grossing movie of Ramsay’s career, according to industry reports.
Starting a film with such an intense scene sounds stressful, but it also shows the trust between actors and directors when telling difficult stories. While it may not be for everyone, Lawrence’s honesty highlights how far performers sometimes go to serve the story.
