Following the formal conclusion of her marriage to Ben Affleck in 2024, Jennifer Lopez has opened up about the transformative journey she has navigated while embracing her current chapter of life.

In a candid preview of her Nightline interview, which aired on Good Morning America this week, the 56-year-old superstar described how she chose to pause her high-profile career to focus on healing.

“I had to stop everything, and I took a year off,” she explained, noting that she opted to step away from professional commitments to sit with her emotions. “I just decided to be home and sit in what had happened without running away from it through work, through another person, through anything — just sit.”

The multi-hyphenate performer emphasized that her priority during this period of transition was her two children, 18-year-old twins Emme and Max. She reflected on the importance of self-reflection, sharing that she reached a point where she had to address her own patterns rather than pointing fingers at others.

“I just got to the point where I was like, ‘What is going on with you?’ Because I couldn’t blame anybody else, because I don’t think that’s where the lesson is,” she said. “And so I really wanted to figure myself out.”

Lopez, who is currently dazzling audiences with her new Las Vegas residency, The JLo Show at Caesars Palace, clarified that she is not looking for a new romance anytime soon. When asked if she was actively dating, she laughed off the idea, expressing that she is content and feeling truly unburdened for the first time in decades.

“It’s so nice right now. I’m so happy. It’s the best. I just feel really good right now,” she told anchor Juju Chang. “And that was the scary thing for me when I was younger. Like, I didn’t know if I could do that. I was always afraid to do that.”

Beyond the personal revelations, Lopez remains a major force in the entertainment industry as she moves through the year. Her current residency features reimagined versions of her greatest hits performed with a full orchestra, blending her pop roots with the Broadway influences that initially sparked her love for performance.

Aside from her stage work, she continues to hold a significant presence at Netflix, with the upcoming romantic comedy Office Romance, where she stars alongside Brett Goldstein, currently in post-production.

Fans are also looking forward to her next major screen project, the psychological thriller The Last Mrs. Parrish, based on the novel by Liv Constantine and directed by Robert Zemeckis.

In this film, Lopez takes on the lead role of Daphne Parrish, a performance that marks a shift into darker, more complex psychological territory. With her children preparing for college this coming August, the star is balancing her ambitious professional schedule with the emotional, bittersweet milestone of transitioning into her life as an empty-nester.
