Netflix is bringing Jennifer Lopez back into romantic comedy territory with a new film titled “Office Romance,” and it pairs her with “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein.

The trailer for the movie was released on April 30, and it gives a look at a workplace love story that quickly turns complicated. Lopez plays Jackie Cruz, a powerful CEO at a large company. Goldstein plays Daniel Blanchflower, a new employee who ends up becoming involved with her.

The story centers on their secret relationship inside the office. Things move forward as the two characters decide to stop hiding their feelings and follow what they want, even though it puts their careers at risk.

According to Netflix and the official synopsis, the film follows how their romance grows in a strict work environment where relationships like this are not allowed.

Director Ol Parker, said the chemistry between Lopez and Goldstein was clear from the beginning. He recalled meeting them before filming started and said, “I had lunch with them way before we began, and we just laughed all the way through the lunch, and I was like, ‘Oh, this is gonna go great,”

The cast also includes Betty Gilpin, Tony Hale, Amy Sedaris, Edward James Olmos, and Bradley Whitford, adding more well-known names to the project.

The director also said this movie pushes further than Lopez’s earlier romantic comedies. He explained that it has a more daring tone compared to films like “Maid in Manhattan” and “The Wedding Planner,” while still keeping the romantic comedy style.

Lopez said the script was one of the main reasons she joined the project. She described it as a mix of humor, romance, and modern themes. In her words, “It is a com rom! It’s a classic romance, with modern, edgier humor,” and she added that the script felt special and different from her past rom-com work.

She also shared that she was already busy with other projects but still made time for this film because she wanted to be part of it.

Brett Goldstein also helped write the movie along with Joe Kelly. He said the idea of casting Lopez came early in the writing process. He said, “We started asking ourselves who the best rom-com star is, and without hesitation, we both said JLo,” and added that the script was built with her in mind from the beginning.

Lopez also spoke about her character, saying Jackie Cruz is very focused on work and not looking for romance at first. She noted that while she understands ambition, her real-life balance is different from the character she plays.

“Office Romance” is set to stream on Netflix starting June 5, as confirmed by the platform and reported through PEOPLE.

This film has a good setup because workplace romance stories always create tension and drama, and the pairing of Lopez and Goldstein feels fresh for this genre. It will be interesting to see if it leans more into comedy or serious emotional conflict. What do you think about Jennifer Lopez returning to romantic comedies with this kind of story?
