Jennifer Lopez, Sydney Sweeney, and Emily Blunt Steal the Spotlight in Oscars Actresses Roundtable Preview
Some of Hollywood’s biggest names came together for a special conversation at The Envelope Oscar Actresses Roundtable. Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sydney Sweeney, Tessa Thompson, Emily Blunt, and Elle Fanning joined the discussion about handling fame, dealing with bad press, and taking on roles that challenge the expectations placed on them.

The event was hosted by Los Angeles Times columnist Lorraine Ali and will be available on The Envelope’s platforms. The roundtable offers fans a behind-the-scenes look at how these actresses manage their careers while staying true to themselves.
Jennifer Lopez highlighted a big year in her career. She starred in the musical drama Kiss of the Spider Woman, directed by Bill Condon. The film, adapted from the Broadway musical, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and received praise for Lopez’s performance. It marked her first time leading a full musical on screen. Lopez also released a new single, Birthday, on her 56th birthday.
Emily Blunt has also been busy. She appeared in the sports drama The Smashing Machine, playing the girlfriend of MMA fighter Mark Kerr. The movie received positive reviews, and Blunt earned a Golden Globe nomination. She will next appear in a science fiction film directed by Steven Spielberg and will reprise her role as Emily Charlton in The Devil Wears Prada 2, scheduled for 2026.
Elle Fanning has branched out into film, gaming, and music. She played a character in the video game Death Stranding 2: On the Beach and contributed to its soundtrack with Woodkid. Fanning also starred in the drama Sentimental Value, which is set to compete at the Cannes Film Festival, and appeared in the sci-fi film Predator: Badlands. She will play Effie Trinket in the upcoming Hunger Games prequel.
Sydney Sweeney starred in the biopic Christy, portraying boxer Christy Martin while also producing the film. The movie received strong reviews, though it struggled at the box office. Speaking about her experience, Sweeney said, “I am so deeply proud of this movie. We don’t always just make art for numbers, we make it for impact.”
Gwyneth Paltrow is set to return to the screen in Marty Supreme, a table tennis drama directed by Josh Safdie and starring Timothée Chalamet. The film is scheduled for release soon.
Tessa Thompson starred in and produced Hedda, an adaptation of the classic play Hedda Gabler. The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, earning praise for Thompson’s performance and her collaboration with director Nia DaCosta. She has received multiple award nominations for her role.
The Envelope Roundtable gave viewers a chance to hear from some of the most prominent actresses about the challenges and rewards of their work. It highlighted how these women navigate public scrutiny while taking on diverse and ambitious projects.
