Jensen Ackles might just be the Batman fans didn’t know they needed. With James Gunn and Peter Safran still looking for the right actor to wear the cowl in their upcoming DCU reboot, Ackles is sounding more and more like a great option.

In a recent conversation with Collider’s Tania Hussain, Ackles shared that if the opportunity ever came up, he would definitely want to take on the role of Bruce Wayne.

“Oh, man. I don’t know. It would be hard to carve out something truly unique amongst all of the performances as Batman,” Ackles said. “I would probably have to lean heavily on Gunn and whoever’s directing and whoever’s writing it, and get inspiration from the text. But look, you talk about not wanting to fumble the football, that’s one that I would be nervous as hell to carry, but also proud, and a certain feather in the cap. Anybody who gets to wear the cowl, they got something.”

Ackles is no stranger to Gotham City. He’s already voiced Batman in several DC animated movies as part of the “Tomorrowverse,” starting with Batman: The Long Halloween. His voice performance stood out, especially in emotional scenes with Catwoman. His take on Batman captured both the deep seriousness of the character and the man struggling with emotions beneath the mask.

Even before voicing Batman, Ackles made a big impression as Jason Todd, also known as Red Hood, in the fan-favorite animated film Batman: Under the Red Hood. His performance brought depth and heartbreak to a story about pain, betrayal, and the complicated bond between Batman and his former sidekick.

For many fans, that movie is still one of the strongest entries in the DC animated universe, thanks in large part to Ackles’ voice work.

It’s not just about voice acting, though. Ackles has the right mix of physicality, attitude, and emotional weight that makes for a compelling live-action Batman. He’s already proven he can handle serious, gritty characters, from his years on Supernatural to his recent role in Countdown, where he plays a tough detective thrown into a deadly investigation.

But Ackles isn’t the only actor who’s shown interest in playing the Caped Crusader. Reacher star Alan Ritchson has also made it very clear that he wants the part. In past interviews, he’s been open about how much he admires the character.

“I would love to play Batman. There I said it okay. I’ll shout it from the rooftops: I wanna be Bruce Wayne,” Ritchson said. “Here’s the thing about Batman. You know what his superpower is? Intelligence. Dude is the smartest superhero there is. Like, he’s inventive and he’s got all the gadgets, but he’s super-smart. I wanna be that guy, and also to have like a cave, with hypercars.”

With both actors passionate about the role, it’s going to be interesting to see who James Gunn ends up choosing for his new Batman movie, which is part of the “Gods and Monsters” chapter of the DC Universe. For now, fans are just waiting to see who’ll take up the mantle next.
