Jeremy Renner is feeling stronger than ever and ready to jump back into action, possibly as Hawkeye again. In a recent interview with Empire, the actor opened up about his recovery, his passion for the Marvel universe, and the chances of returning for Hawkeye Season 2.

In 2023, Renner survived a terrifying snowplow accident on his Lake Tahoe property. He was pulled under a 14,000-pound machine and suffered serious injuries. After a long and tough recovery, he’s now back in shape and feeling better than before.

“I’m always happy to be in that world, man,” Renner said about the MCU. “I love all those guys, I love the character.” He said he’s open to returning for a second season of Hawkeye on Disney+, where he starred alongside Hailee Steinfeld. “I’m sure we’ll end up doing Season 2, and do other things. And I’m happy to do it,” he shared.

“My body’s getting ready for something like that. I don’t know if anybody wants to see me in tights, but my body will look good in the tights.”

Renner told Empire that his fitness now is better than it was before the accident. He even said he’s fully ready to do those intense stunts again, like jumping mid-air and firing arrows in one smooth move. “Absolutely. No problem,” he said. “That’s where I’m at. I’m more than 150 per cent of what I was prior to the incident.”

Now, staying healthy and strong isn’t just something he does to prepare for a role. It’s a key part of his daily life. “Having health and wellness be such a central part of my life, that’s what’s gotten me back,” he explained. “And even as I age, I just feel stronger than I’ve been. I have some issues, and tendon issues and certain limitations of flexibility and mobility, but I spent a lot of time on getting better and stronger, and I wouldn’t if I didn’t get crushed.”

Still, the return of Hawkeye might not be that simple. Renner previously mentioned that he was offered a spot in the second season, but at half the pay he received the first time around.

Considering how physically demanding the role is and how long it takes to film, he found the offer unfair, especially after everything he’s been through.

He didn’t blame Marvel Studios or Disney directly. Instead, he pointed to the accountants behind the numbers. According to Renner, he turned down the deal because he needed to stand up for himself.

Even though he still loves the character and wants to keep playing Hawkeye, he said he’s also okay with walking away if it comes to that. He hasn’t made a final decision yet, but if Marvel and Renner can work things out, fans might still see him suit up again.

The full interview is featured in Empire, where Renner talks more about his recovery and his future in the MCU.
