Few Marvel stars have mastered the art of the cryptic tease quite like Jeremy Renner. The actor, who last appeared as Clint Barton in the 2021 Disney+ series ‘Hawkeye’, has spent years keeping fans guessing about whether the archer will ever return to the MCU.

Back in August, Renner set the internet buzzing by posting a close-up of his Hawkeye costume to his Instagram Story, captioned “Added to END GAME PRESS.” That post arrived shortly after Kevin Feige confirmed at D23 2026 that Renner would reprise Clint for ‘Avengers Infinity Defense’, a new attraction coming to Avengers Campus at Disney California Adventure as part of an expansion due in 2028.

Now Renner has dropped another hint, and this one points somewhere fans have long hoped to see. The actor shared an Instagram Story showing a spread of comic books, with several ‘West Coast Avengers’ issues front and center alongside a ‘Hawkeye’ issue.

The post came without any explanation, which only fueled speculation. Many fans immediately took it as a sign that a West Coast team-up could be on the way in the MCU. The idea of a West Coast-style Avengers team led by Clint has been a popular theory ever since ‘Hawkeye’ premiered. In that series, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop became Clint’s protégé, setting up a natural pairing for a new team.

The show even included an Easter egg nodding to a character whose home serves as the team’s headquarters in the comics. For fans who caught it, Renner’s latest post feels like a meaningful callback.

Renner has already made clear that he won’t be part of the next big Avengers film. Speaking at a recent event alongside Salesforce VP Madeline Schofield, he said he isn’t in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, jokingly suggesting the Avengers might lose without him.

He has, however, hinted that he could appear in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ instead. ‘Doomsday’ arrives on December 18, 2026, while ‘Secret Wars’ is set for December 17, 2027. Reactions online have been enthusiastic. Many fans on social media are pushing for a West Coast Avengers assembly in ‘Secret Wars’, while others see it as the perfect way to bring Hawkeye back while giving him a team of his own.

Some have also speculated that Renner could be connecting the idea to a “team left behind” storyline. For now, these remain fan theories rather than anything Marvel has confirmed.

Marvel Studios has not announced any West Coast Avengers project. Even so, Marvel executive Brad Winderbaum has previously teased that fans have plenty to look forward to regarding the future of ‘Wonder Man’ and the West Coast Avengers.

That makes Renner’s post all the more intriguing. If Marvel is looking for a way to bring back an original Avenger while launching something new, a West Coast team could be an elegant solution.

It’s worth remembering that Renner’s earlier costume post may have been tied to the upcoming theatrical release of ‘Avengers: Endgame Encore’. His comic book photo could simply be the actor having fun with fans.

Still, Clint remains one of the MCU’s original Avengers who is still around, and Renner hasn’t shied away from talking about returning. Until Marvel says otherwise, fans will keep reading between the lines.
