Jessie Buckley Stuns in Custom Chanel Gown While Winning Big at 2026 BAFTAs
Jessie Buckley wins big once more. At the British Academy Film Awards on Sunday night, February 22, the Hamnet star took home the trophy for the prestigious Best Leading Actress award. For the occasion, she opted to wear what many are now calling her lucky color.
Arriving at the Southbank Centre’s Royal Festival Hall in the heart of London, Buckley walked the red carpet in a striking blue gown featuring a draped cowl back. The Chanel dress was a custom creation by Matthieu Blazy, adapted from a look that originally debuted as part of the Métiers d’art collection last fall.
The actor’s version was crafted from a vibrant blue velvet fabric. It swapped the original runway design’s long sleeves for a sleek sleeveless silhouette and featured a slightly adjusted waistline. The elegant look was finished with intricate silver floral embellishments on each shoulder.
In her acceptance speech, Buckley expressed that the honor really does belong to the women past, present, and future who have taught her to approach her craft with a unique perspective. She then turned her focus toward the director of the film. She thanked Chloé Zhao for her uncompromising artistry, noting that the filmmaker was making history as a storyteller.

This win marked a significant repeat of history for Buckley, who also wore a show-stopping blue gown when she won her first Golden Globe earlier this year. For that ceremony, she chose a silk baby-blue look designed by Jonathan Anderson for Dior.
That asymmetrical gown featured a singular off-the-shoulder detail and was styled by Danielle Goldberg with sparkling diamond earrings. Beyond her current awards season sweep, Buckley has been incredibly active in the industry.
Her portrayal of Agnes Shakespeare in Hamnet has not only won her a BAFTA and a Golden Globe but has also positioned her as a frontrunner for the upcoming Academy Awards. The film, which co-stars Paul Mescal as William Shakespeare, explores the domestic life and profound grief of the couple following the loss of their young son.
Aside from her success in historical drama, Buckley is set to show off her range in a much darker genre. She recently wrapped production on The Bride!, a bold reimagining of the Bride of Frankenstein story directed by Maggie Gyllenhaal. The film, which is scheduled for release on March 6, features a massive ensemble cast including Christian Bale, Penelope Cruz, and Peter Sarsgaard.
This follows her recent work in the dark comedy Wicked Little Letters and the experimental horror film Men. Between her historic win as the first Irish woman to take the Lead Actress BAFTA and her upcoming sci-fi and horror roles, Buckley is firmly establishing herself as one of the most versatile performers of her generation.
