Jessie J Seems to Call Out Channing Tatum in Emotional New Track: ‘Karma Is Gonna Come One Day’
Jessie J appears to address her breakup with Channing Tatum in a new song from her upcoming album. During a listening event in London for Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time, the 37-year-old singer shared her track Threw It Away, which hints at her split from the Magic Mike star in 2020, according to The Sun.
Although she doesn’t mention Tatum directly, Jessie sings about an ex she calls a “beast.” “This next song I wrote in 2020 with Ryan Tedder, and you can figure out who I was dating,” she told attendees, per The Sun.
The song includes lines such as: “I put my heart out on the table / That’s when it got uncomfortable / But oh that karma is gonna come one day / ’Cause I gave you my love and you threw it away.” She later adds: “Don’t you dare rewrite the story / I’m the beauty, you’re the beast.”
Jessie and Tatum were first linked in late 2018, shortly after Tatum’s split from ex-wife Jenna Dewan. The couple had a brief breakup in December 2019 but reconciled in January 2020 before ultimately parting ways later that year. A source told PEOPLE at the time that the split was “totally amicable” and that they realized it was better to move on despite caring for each other.
At the event, Jessie also reflected on her health. After being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer, she underwent a mastectomy in June 2025. “I’m grateful for the lessons and grateful for the connectivity it’s given me with so many people having cancer,” she said, according to The Sun. She added, “And I’ve been a better parent, I’ve been a better person.”
Jessie now shares a son, Sky Safir, with her boyfriend Chanan Colman, born in May 2023. Don’t Tease Me with a Good Time is set to release on Friday, Nov. 28.
