Jim Carrey gave fans a rare glimpse into his private life while being honored for his legendary career in Paris. The 64-year-old actor used his time on stage at the César Awards on Thursday, February 26, to go public with his longtime girlfriend, Mina, who is often referred to by the nickname Minzi.

While Carrey has mostly stayed out of the Hollywood limelight in recent years to focus on his art, he made a grand return to accept an honorary prize for his contribution to the visual arts and cinema.

Accepting the award at the historic L’Olympia theater, Carrey delivered a heartfelt and emotional speech, even surprising the audience by speaking in French throughout much of the ceremony.

He took a moment to explicitly recognize the people closest to him who had traveled to France for the event. Thank you to my wonderful family, my daughter Jane, and my grandson Jackson. I love you now and forever, Carrey said, before turning his attention to his partner. Thank you to my sublime companion, Mina. I love you, Mina.

The couple was first linked publicly back in February 2022 when they were spotted on a casual date in Los Angeles, but they have kept their relationship extremely low-profile since then.

Mina, who is described as a Los Angeles-based artist and actress, sat alongside Carrey’s family during the 51st edition of the prestigious French awards. Carrey also paid a touching tribute to his late father, Percy Joseph Carrey, calling him the funniest man I have ever known and thanking him for teaching him the value of love, generosity, and laughter.

While Carrey has joked about retirement in the past, his career is far from over. He was introduced at the ceremony by director Michel Gondry, who famously directed him in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind over two decades ago.

The actor’s recent work has seen him embrace his iconic role as Dr. Robotnik in the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, with the third film having recently dominated the box office. Fans are already looking forward to his return in Sonic the Hedgehog 4, which was officially greenlit following the success of the third installment and is expected to hit theaters in 2027.

Beyond the world of high-speed hedgehogs, Carrey has been spending more time in his art studio than in front of a camera. He has become a respected painter and sculptor. This shift toward the fine arts was a major reason for the French Academy’s decision to honor him, as they celebrated his versatility and his willingness to reinvent himself outside of the traditional studio system.

In terms of upcoming screen projects, rumors have been swirling about Carrey potentially joining a live-action adaptation of The Jetsons, though he remains selective about which roles he accepts.

He has often stated that he will only return to acting for a script that feels truly special or “written in gold ink.” For now, it seems he is perfectly content balancing his creative pursuits with a happy family life alongside Mina, Jane, and Jackson.
