Jimmy Kimmel criticized President Donald Trump after he defended an ICE agent involved in the fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, in Minneapolis on January 7. Trump took to Truth Social to describe the shooting as self-defense and blamed “the Radical Left” for putting law enforcement at risk.

“I have just viewed the clip of the event which took place in Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is a horrible thing to watch,” Trump wrote.

He claimed the woman driving the car was “very disorderly, obstructing and resisting,” and described her as a “professional agitator.” Trump added that the ICE officer who shot her was recovering in the hospital and said incidents like this occur because of “the Radical Left threatening, assaulting, and targeting our Law Enforcement Officers and ICE Agents on a daily basis.”

Kimmel did not hold back during his January 7 monologue, calling Trump a “maniac.” The late-night host said he watched the video of the incident and noted, “It didn’t look like anybody got run over to me. It looked to me like a woman got scared, tried to drive away, and they shot her. That’ll be for the court to decide.”

Kimmel also played a clip of Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey, who strongly condemned the actions of the ICE agent and criticized Trump’s defense. “This was an agent recklessly using power that resulted in somebody dying, getting killed. And I have a message for ICE… Get the f*** out of Minneapolis,” Frey said.

This is the second recent instance where Kimmel has publicly criticized Trump’s response to tragic events. Earlier, when filmmaker Rob Reiner passed away, Trump claimed it was “due to the anger he caused others” from what he called Reiner’s “Trump derangement syndrome.” Kimmel called the remark “hateful and vile” at the time.

“What we need at a time like this, besides common sense when it comes to guns and mental health care, is compassion and leadership. We did not get that from our president, because he has none of it to give. Instead, we got a fool rambling about nonsense,” Kimmel said during his monologue.
