Jimmy Olsen Spinoff Reportedly in Development as New Details Surface About DCU’s Next Big Series
Even before James Gunn’s Superman movie hit theaters, reports started coming out that DC Studios was already planning a couple of spinoff shows.
According to the Wall Street Journal, Gunn and the studio had early talks about two possible series. One would focus on Edi Gathegi’s character, Mr. Terrific. The other would center around Jimmy Olsen, played by Skyler Gisondo.
In the new Superman movie, Jimmy Olsen isn’t exactly a leading character. But by the end of the film, he surprisingly becomes a key part of the story. He has a complicated connection to Eve Teschmacher, who is Lex Luthor’s assistant and his ex-girlfriend. She still has strong feelings for him, which turns out to be very useful.
Thanks to their relationship, Jimmy manages to get crucial evidence that helps the heroes take down Luthor. In the movie, Eve risks everything for Jimmy, even putting her life and freedom on the line after Luthor traps her in one of his pocket dimensions.
Fans really liked Gisondo’s version of Jimmy Olsen. So when reports started spreading that he might get his own series, people were generally happy about the idea.
Now, a new report from a known insider on X, who goes by the username @ApocHorseman, claims that the Jimmy Olsen spinoff show is indeed happening. According to the source, the series is in development at DC Studios and will stream on HBO Max. Interestingly, the show won’t just follow Jimmy. Instead, it’s said to be a crime anthology series that will focus on different DC villains, though Jimmy Olsen will host it.

What’s even more curious is that James Gunn himself recently hinted at something like this. While speaking to Rolling Stone, Gunn talked about a new TV series that’s “about to be greenlit” if all goes well, although he didn’t give any details.
Around the same time, Gunn appeared on the Happy Sad Confused podcast. When asked directly about the possible Mr. Terrific and Jimmy Olsen spinoffs, Gunn chose not to comment.
Right now, Superman is still playing in theaters. But behind the scenes, it seems DC Studios is already laying the groundwork for what comes next, and Jimmy Olsen might soon be getting his own spotlight.
