Joe Keery is officially ushering in a new era, and he’s starting from the top down. On Sunday, Jan. 11, the Stranger Things breakout star arrived at the 83rd Annual Golden Globe Awards at the Beverly Hilton sporting a transformation that left social media in a frenzy.

Gone were the voluminous, dark brown locks that defined his tenure as Steve “The Hair” Harrington. In their place, Keery debuted a striking, bleach-blonde look that served as a clear signal: he is ready to leave Hawkins, Indiana, in the rearview mirror.

Dressed in a sharp Louis Vuitton ensemble featuring a white blazer and black trousers, the 33-year-old actor successfully leaned into a high-fashion, “indie-rock” aesthetic. The lighter hair color perfectly complemented his suave ensemble, though the reaction from fans was immediate and fiercely divided.

While some enthusiasts took to X to praise the “dreamy” energy of the platinum ‘do, others mourned the loss of his natural brunette shade. Regardless of the debate, Keery appeared entirely unfazed, confidently taking the stage during the ceremony to present an award alongside Charli XCX.

This daring aesthetic shift comes just weeks after the emotional conclusion of Stranger Things. The fifth and final season wrapped up its run on Netflix with a three-part release schedule that saw the series finale air on New Year’s Eve, 2025.

Reflecting on his decade-long journey, Keery noted that the show’s success was the result of a massive group effort involving thousands of workers. He expressed deep satisfaction with Steve Harrington’s character arc, which evolved from a selfish high-school jerk to a compassionate, surrogate “big brother” to the younger cast.

“I just love that the character kind of makes that choice [to do the right thing],” Keery recently shared with Jimmy Fallon. The actor emphasized that while he is moving on to new creative heights, the role of Steve is one that will stay with him for the rest of his life.

With the Upside Down finally closed, Keery is moving full steam ahead into a diverse slate of projects for 2026. Fans won’t have to wait long to see him back on the big screen, as he is set to star in the sci-fi horror-comedy Cold Storage, releasing on February 13, 2026.

In Cold Storage, Keery plays Travis “Teacake” Meacham, a night-shift storage employee who must team up with action legend Liam Neeson and Barbarian star Georgina Campbell. Together, they fight to contain a government-sealed, brain-controlling parasitic fungus that has escaped into the facility.

Beyond the silver screen, Keery’s musical alter-ego, Djo, is preparing for an international takeover. Following the viral success of his track “End of Beginning,” he released his third studio album, The Crux, in late 2025.

In March 2026, he will head to South America for a string of headlining performances in Mexico and major festival sets at Lollapalooza Argentina, Chile, and Brazil. There are also persistent whispers in the industry that Marvel Studios has met with Keery for a significant role in their upcoming “Mutant Saga,” with fans specifically eyeing him for characters like Cyclops or Harry Osborn.

Whether he is battling mutated spores or dominating the global music charts, Joe Keery is proving he is much more than just a man with great hair. He is a multifaceted talent who is successfully navigating one of the most difficult transitions in Hollywood: leaving a beloved franchise to become a bona fide leading man.
