Ever since ‘Agatha All Along’ revealed his character’s true identity, fans have been wondering when Joe Locke’s Wiccan will return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The ‘Heartstopper’ star’s mysterious “Teen” was unmasked as Billy Maximoff, the son of Elizabeth Olsen’s Wanda Maximoff, at the end of the show’s fifth episode.

The reveal also carried major significance for representation. An early episode had already confirmed the character’s sexuality when he received a call from his boyfriend, and Locke has openly hoped the role leads to a significant place in the MCU’s version of the Young Avengers.

Now, Locke has been asked directly about his Marvel future, and his response was equally hopeful and coy. Speaking on the red carpet at the Zurich Film Festival in a clip shared via felixfilmreviews on TikTok, the actor was asked whether he would return as Wiccan in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ and ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, and he said he hopes so while admitting that nobody really knows.

It’s a familiar non-answer from an actor bound by Marvel’s famous secrecy. Still, his smile in the clip hasn’t stopped fans from reading between the lines. Locke has been similarly careful in the past. When discussing what comes next for Billy, he previously noted that he couldn’t say, while acknowledging that someone at Marvel surely knows.

There have been plenty of clues pointing toward a return. In July 2025, Steven Sater seemingly let slip that he hadn’t seen Locke in London because the actor was busy with ‘Heartstopper’ and a Marvel movie.

At the time, ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ was the only Marvel movie known to be filming, which led many to assume Locke was involved. Filming on the project ran from April to September 2025.

More recently, a September 2026 report from The Cosmic Circus claimed Locke will return as Wiccan in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, where he’ll reportedly get his chance to shine. Marvel Studios has not officially confirmed his involvement in either film.

Locke has made it clear he’s in it for the long haul. In an interview with The Playlist, he revealed that he signed a long-term deal with Marvel, suggesting Billy’s story is far from over.

He has big dreams for the character too. Locke told Entertainment Weekly that in his ideal world, Billy would become the next leader of the Avengers and appear in every Marvel project, though he recognized that bigger decisions are out of his hands.

He’s also named a dream scene partner. Locke said he thinks Billy could learn a lot from Doctor Strange, given how young the character is in his magical journey.

Billy’s potential return carries extra weight with the Scarlet Witch’s status still up in the air. Fans have speculated that his arrival in ‘Agatha All Along’ could signal Wanda’s eventual comeback.

The Young Avengers have also been quietly assembling across the MCU. With several potential members already introduced, many fans believe a team-up is inevitable, especially as the Multiverse Saga heads toward its conclusion.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ hits theaters on December 18, 2026, while ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ is scheduled for December 17, 2027. Filming on the latter is slated to begin in mid-2026, so answers about Billy’s fate may not be far off.

When do you think Joe Locke’s Wiccan will return to the MCU?
