Joe Locke Reveals He is Now the Most Powerful Character in ‘Agatha All Along’ & Teases The Future For Wiccan: “Billy would become the next head of the Avengers”
One of the most captivating mysteries in Agatha All Along was the identity of Joe Locke’s character, “The Teen.” In the latest episode, it is revealed that this boy is actually Wanda’s reincarnated son—Billy Maximoff, also known as Billy Kaplan and Wiccan.
This revelation brings up several new questions. By the end of the show, viewers will need to discover who placed the sigil on Billy, how he made his way back to Westview, why he appears as a teenager, and what happened to his brother Tommy.
The show has begun to address some of these questions with hints. In the latest episode, Billy reveals that a lot happened to him at age 13, and the footage features Billy Kaplan, born to Jeff and Rebecca Kaplan, who is involved in a car crash during WandaVision.
This serves as a significant clue regarding how Hilliard’s younger Billy Maximoff disappeared when Wanda lifted the hex over Westview but has now returned as a fully grown character on the Witches’ Road. However, many details remain unclear.
Following his major reveal and newfound ability to discuss his role, Locke recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly, teasing what’s next for Wiccan.
The actor mentioned that the show continues to improve and that the real action is just beginning. He also confirmed that his character is essentially the most powerful in Agatha All Along.
The show starts getting real. The show starts with Billy being very much the familiar, the secondary to all the witches. Now we know he is also a witch, and that changes things. Also, we now know that he has the ability to cause harm to them. Therefore, he is now the most powerful person on the Road. What does that change in the dynamic of the group and how does that change the future of those relationships?
Locke also shared what he enjoys about portraying Wiccan, highlighting the nuances that make him a complex and significant character. He clarified that he has been deceiving Agatha all along (pun intended).
We talked a lot about playing with the gray area. At the end of episode 5, we don’t know what happens to those witches, but he’s not doing a good thing. We played a lot with, does that make him a bad person? Is he a good person? Which then draws parallels to the motherly figures in his life. Wanda does evil things but isn’t necessarily evil.
Agatha, questionably, is evil, but there’s more to that, as well. We know that he’s been lying to her, and we play a lot with those dynamics of how duplicitous he is. The facade of the fanboy teen, is that completely fake or is that actually still a real part of him? This is the stuff that I found so interesting in playing him.
Ultimately, Locke discussed the parallels between his character and Wanda, emphasizing the subtle details they aimed to incorporate into the show to help viewers connect the mother and son. He also acknowledged that he wasn’t very familiar with the character before taking on the role, which is not unusual.
We worked to find similarities in both Billy and Wanda, the way they use their magic. Fans of the comic corner know that Billy’s powers are pretty much the same as Wanda’s with a few differences, so we wanted to find similarities with that, but also his own finesse.
Looking ahead, Locke has ambitious plans for Wiccan:
In my ideal world, Billy would become the next head of the Avengers and be in every Marvel thing ever, but there are higher things at play. I had the most amazing experience filming on Agatha and being a part of the Marvel family and would love to do that until the day I die. But who knows? I don’t. I’m sure someone does.
